“Don’t die with a grenade in your pocket”. That was probably the most useful tip I’ve heard about this game. Indeed, I always dump my grenades/explosive packs when I feel I’m in danger of dying. So do many others. This, in a game where you can control your entire squad and throw their grenades (and where the death of a soldier isn’t that big of a deal), leads to a lot of grenade explosions and kills in battles.
This is made even worse by people who, when surrounded by enemies, just press g or n to drop explosives at their feet before dying. This is an unfair exploit, that often inflicts many casualties on enemies, even though they completely outmanouvered & beaten you, and had played better.
Now, I like doing that, it helps me to get good scores even when I’m playing very bad, but I don’t think it is fair and I don’t want the game to be that easy. The only reason that exploit is possible at all is due to the fact that, yeah, even in the middle of battle, you can just press g or n and it will, more or less instantly, drop an explosive pack or grenade at your feet.
A fix for this, which would also add more realism to the game, is to increase the time it takes to effectively throw a grenade/EP. You would have to pick the grenade out of your pocket, put your second hand in it, pull the pin and then move your arms to throw it (and the game should account for these times). It should take at least 1 or 2 seconds for that process to be completed and for the grenade to be ready to be thrown (even if you just want to drop it at your feet) and, if your soldier dies after pressing g or n, but before these 1 or 2 secs are completed, the grenade should not explode, thus preventing the exploit where people just drop grenades as if they were eggs instantly before dying, and adding more balance to the game.
Another thing about grenades is that to throw back enemy grenades you have to aim in a very small radius near where the grenade hits, or else you won’t be able to do it. I’m dying nearly every time I try to do it, the radius should be increased as it is nearly impossible to aim exactly near where the grenade landed.
Bots don’t seem to have that problem though and they often throw back enemy grenades, which is nice. But the thing about AI and grenades is that they AI very rarely throws them at the enemy or in the enemy’s direction. Someone should tell them that tip of not dying with a grenade in your pocket!
