Fix to the insta-dumping grenades/explosives before dying exploit & a suggestion to improve throwing back enemy grenades

“Don’t die with a grenade in your pocket”. That was probably the most useful tip I’ve heard about this game. Indeed, I always dump my grenades/explosive packs when I feel I’m in danger of dying. So do many others. This, in a game where you can control your entire squad and throw their grenades (and where the death of a soldier isn’t that big of a deal), leads to a lot of grenade explosions and kills in battles.

This is made even worse by people who, when surrounded by enemies, just press g or n to drop explosives at their feet before dying. This is an unfair exploit, that often inflicts many casualties on enemies, even though they completely outmanouvered & beaten you, and had played better.

Now, I like doing that, it helps me to get good scores even when I’m playing very bad, but I don’t think it is fair and I don’t want the game to be that easy. The only reason that exploit is possible at all is due to the fact that, yeah, even in the middle of battle, you can just press g or n and it will, more or less instantly, drop an explosive pack or grenade at your feet.

A fix for this, which would also add more realism to the game, is to increase the time it takes to effectively throw a grenade/EP. You would have to pick the grenade out of your pocket, put your second hand in it, pull the pin and then move your arms to throw it (and the game should account for these times). It should take at least 1 or 2 seconds for that process to be completed and for the grenade to be ready to be thrown (even if you just want to drop it at your feet) and, if your soldier dies after pressing g or n, but before these 1 or 2 secs are completed, the grenade should not explode, thus preventing the exploit where people just drop grenades as if they were eggs instantly before dying, and adding more balance to the game.

Another thing about grenades is that to throw back enemy grenades you have to aim in a very small radius near where the grenade hits, or else you won’t be able to do it. I’m dying nearly every time I try to do it, the radius should be increased as it is nearly impossible to aim exactly near where the grenade landed.

Bots don’t seem to have that problem though and they often throw back enemy grenades, which is nice. But the thing about AI and grenades is that they AI very rarely throws them at the enemy or in the enemy’s direction. Someone should tell them that tip of not dying with a grenade in your pocket!

When i go kamikaze with a grenade I always cook it first. But the effect is the same…I get killed, I take my killers with me.

The problem is that not only was this common in all fields of the war, it was especially common in the Pacific. This goes with all other suicidal actions in the game…manning an MG when you know you will be killed just to kill that large squad of troops, running into a room with flame blazing knowing you will be consumed with flames as well, etc.

They are stalemate breaking moves, sacrifices for the greater good. I don’t see it as an exploit…

…that said, I think you should have to cook the grenade and get ready to throw it in order for it to be live when you die. Having it so a player can simply drop a grenade, without arming it at his feet is not very realistic.

Indeed, that is the main point. It is extremely unrealistic to just instantly drop them like an egg. Adding the 1-2 secs delay to get the grenade live would solve nearly all the problems with the lack of realism and the excessive use and lethality of that practice.

The problem is that, on Squads mode, you control many soldiers and can make several of such ‘sacrifices’. Like, when the enemy outplays you and gets you completely surrounded, you just make grenade dump after grenade dump, effectively neutralizing the better enemy, instead of having him massacre you, like what should have happened (this is made worse by how hard it is to throw back/away grenades too).

Also, you can break-in entire points by just sending suicidal soldier after suicidal soldier in. That’s not really realistic (even for the most dedicated japanese). Having the grenade delays would on itself curb that practice and make it less feasible to do without requiring much else.

OK, I’m really starting to get phased out by that exploit. First I manage to dump an explosive pack by clicking n 1 mili-second before dying, killed 3 enemies…

Then, worse, I got caught by two entire advancing enemy squads while I was reloading my mp40, managed to dump an explosive pack, like an egg, WHILE reloading. I died shortly after reloading but took down 9 enemies with me. This sort of exploit shouldn’t be in the game and, unless my soldier was carrying the explosive pack on his sleeve, there is no realism to it, ffs the soldier was using both hands to reload how the hell did he just dump an explosive pack on the floor (and a live one) before dying?
