In the menu, the soldiers hold the weapon correctly, with the grip, but in the game they hold it by the magazine. It’s as if they recycled the animation from the PPSH-41 with a drum magazine. In the game, there are other weapons with grips that are functional, and there’s the Thompson with its enormous 100-round magazine, and holding it correctly wasn’t a problem.
