Since the FNAB-43 uses the same 40 round magazines as the Beretta M38 and its variants, they should have the same ammo pool, just as how the MKb 42 (H) and other guns using StG 44 type magazines have the same ammo pool.
The more internal consistency in the game the better in my honest opinion.

Because it will reduce the total amount of ammunition that can be used

I’d rather have it be consistent than not. And it doesn’t make sense that if you run out of ammo with your primary, and your secondary uses the same magazines, that you won’t be able to use those same magazines.

You are comparing italian bullet with german bullet so that logical they need 2 magazines differents. That is concistent.
wouldn’t it be better to just use an ammo bag if you using same caliber same type weapons?
FNAB is Italian and so is M38, they should intermingle

I’d rather use a Beretta M1 than an MP40 to go with the MP41
Because this way I will have double the ammunition to kill more enemies
Isn’t the point of holding dual weapons just to use two different weapons?
Currently, a universal magazine can only carry the amount of ammunition for one weapon, and large backpacks cannot be used.
This offers no advantages over dual weapons
Unless you want to waste time looking for ammo boxes and engineers
