For the sake of this tiny review and to explain the “experienced” tag in the title, here experienced only means I maxed Moscow and am lvl 20+ in every other campaigns (but Normandy). It does NOT by any means that I consider myself good or bad at the game, I’m not that presumptuous.
So without further ado, I thought it would be interesting to write my two cents about a campaign I USED to hate, under a new light and playing it the way a new ftp player might (without using my ample amount of silver) for the challenge of it.
My first (new) impression… is positive. We all know and read this campaign is probably the less balanced of them all, but equipment wise, I haven’t had any real troubles on any side (up lvl 10). Infantry wise, it’s a really fun campaign and I’ve noticed that… it’s rather easy (?) to have exellent scores in it:
Being a Moscow enthusiast, my weapons of choice were and still are bolt actions. For some reason those are greatly overlooked by other players in this campaign, it’s like the campaign mainly attracts run and gun call of duty players favouring automatics. They are making exceptionally easy targets for players such as I, I even feel bad about it, it’s just like duck shooting. Heck, Germans START with one of the best BA by default, and allies get access to the fantastic leeEnfield mk4.
What I like of the campaign so far:
Each sides start the campaign with fairly decent weapons.
Very good equipment is unlocked very soon in the campaign tree, compared to other campaigns.
The campaign is very easy, both sides, provided one has learnt how to use infantry’s bread and butter well, namely bolt actions.
What I find weird/bizzare
premium BAR squads. Why is the German squad having access to such a vastly superior version than USA… the country where BARs orgininate from?
Airfield map. Has been discussed countless times, the reinforcements mechanics with balloons means that UNLESS the Allied team is comprised of mostly bots or completely retarded individuals, they will win eventually.
What I dislike
Still a bit too much bombing for my taste, but much, MUCH more manageable than it used to be.
Sometimes vehicles might seem unequal, but I mostly avoid them for the moment and don’t rush in front of the as infantry, so no big deal.
This is it for now, from a player who’ve seen all other campaigns BUT this one, up lvl 10.
There is no probably since it’s hard to actually balance the game and make it a bloodbath that most know the invasion to be, so a lot of the issues could be down to just simple design since the allies need an assault tank to make it through safety
Captured Polish BARs, longer barrel among other improvements/changes, including being rechambered for 7.92mm Mauser before germany captured them. They’re not hugely superior to the A2, but they’re arguably better IRL, and they’re a premium squad, so the impact is less.
I’ve only recently started playing Axis in normandy after maxing Allies, and I gotta say about airfield, I was confused. I intentionally destroyed as many balloons as I could to deny the allies that resource, but either they were killing them faster or them being destroyed at all increases allied tickets, cuz they just kept climbing.
normandy is a shit, I need 3 levels to finish it and then move to berlin, but I can confirm it this month to complete it, I felt so much disgust in playing it because of the playerbase, a set of kids and idiots along with bad maps where bots were my only chance of winning.
I went deep into how the balloons worked a couple of months ago. The 3rd and final balloon destroyed in a cluster awards the Allies with tickets if the Axis destroys that final balloon.
What does seem to be possible (can’t confirm because I can only play one faction) as a way to deny the Allies is for the Axis to destroy the 1st balloon in a cluster.
But that, even if possible, is a waste of time if the Allies focus on balloons before they cap the 1st point. The reason that it’s pointless to try to deny tbe Allies is that the balloon clusters over Allied territory, during the assault on the 1st point, are completly invisible to Axis players, they don’t render.
But having said that, as someone who has played Normandy Axis for a solid month, it has been rare for the Allies to make any attempt at destroying balloons…and, at least in my experience, the Airfield is a pretty easy win for Axis.
Thanks for the info! I will say, my experience with airfield is much different. As Allies, I’ve rarely lost a match on airfield, probably because if I notice we’re low on tickets, I stop what I’m doing an blow up some balloons, from the ground if I can because that gives more tickets. As Axis, I’ve only won I think one game on airfield, and that includes two matches where the allies won with zero tickets remaining and no amount of effort from me alone was keeping them out of the point.
You see, I believe it’s the reason I have so much success. I’m using starter squads, wich I DID NOT upgrade with better weaponry and better classes (I’m trying to challenge myself into playing like a new ftp player, so I don’t use my silver).
Since I have alot of experience from Moscow, I daresay I’m very good with bolt actions, and the ones you start with in Normandy are exellent… I don’t need much more… I’m always top 1 or in the top 3 using my starter squads with base weaponry.
And if the mkb43 is alike the sniper mkb42 from Moscow… ouch to my future enemies…
Yeah, momentum seemed to have shifted to the Allies in the last couple of weeks.
I’m guess that a good number of Axis players maxed the levels…spent bronze weapon tickets to outfit their squads before the random weapon delivery is replaced and likely moved to another campaign to grind to a point where they can still use bronze on random weapons
you will also be happy but the fact remains that the bots are superior to almost all the players in the campaign, in normandy I found only one type of battle or win from the beginning or lose from the beginning, the satisfying head-to-head fights I played will have been 6 or 7, the remaining among the most total boredom
I would dare saying the mkb42h is as of now, the best firearm of the whole game, all campaigns and factions together. It is THAT good. It does EVERYTHING well, siping, cqb, suppress… it has no downside. The scope probably makes the weapon superior to the mp43 in Normandy, even.
