Field Modifications for Vehicles

Suggestion: Field Modifications for Vehicles (Sandbags, Logs, Spare Tracks)

In real battles, tank crews almost never kept their vehicles factory-clean. They modified them in the field with whatever they had. Allied crews piled sandbags and spare track links on the hull, German crews hung spare tracks and gear on their tanks, and Soviet crews strapped logs and supplies to the hull. Every crew had its own look.

Right now, every vehicle in Enlisted looks identical to every other one of its type. I’d like to suggest optional field modifications that bring that wartime character back.

How it could work:

  • Players could add items like sandbags, wooden logs, spare track links, tarps and crates to their vehicles.
  • Phase 1 (simple): purely cosmetic. No stat changes, so no balance risk.
  • Phase 2 (optional, later): small gameplay tradeoffs if the community wants them (for example, extra weight slightly reducing speed).

Why it’s worth it:

  1. Historical authenticity: it matches how vehicles really looked in the field.
  2. Personal ownership: players feel their tank is truly theirs, which keeps them invested in the game.
  3. Low development risk: cosmetic items don’t touch balance, and could even be offered as unlockable rewards.
  4. Visual variety: matches feel more alive when every vehicle looks a little different.

“But won’t it break balance?” Not in Phase 1. Cosmetics change nothing about armor or damage. If gameplay effects are ever added, they should come with clear tradeoffs.

What do you think? Vote below and share which modifications you’d like to see.

  • Yes, add cosmetic modifications
  • Yes, with small gameplay tradeoffs
  • No, I prefer vehicles as they are

We already have cosmetic modifications w skins, I think you’re refering to add decorators based on add-on armour from back on the day.

Anyway, even though crews used to do that, it was not really allowed because it didn’t offer significant additional protection in trade for performance. I think the only modificacation technically allowed was welding tracks to the vehicle, since those were made of treated metal.

Something similar was planned at one point, since our CM leaked a picture of it.

But it was obviously discontinued, since the leak happened about two years ago. And since then, they’ve instead kept releasing “armored” camos.

Don’t expect this to ever happen, they are way too busy designing yet another filler gimmick class instead.
