Feedback for the devs

Hello.

I am aware that enlisted is in beta at the moment, and will soon be available on steam.

Therefore I would like to give my feedback about the game before it’s lauched officially.

First of all, I do think the game is great. It’s beautiful, the maps are amazing, the game modes are fun to play, no game is the same, and the IA system makes it a completely new type of fps.

However…

I have been playing for 2 weeks now, on a daily basis, and here I will list some frustrations that could cost you a lot of your player base.

  • The game is complete. So complete it took me a week to understand how the basics work.
Giving 20K silver to every new player, + 20k for playing 3 games sounds like a nice kickstart, but since I was a new player, I selected " random nation" and upgraded all faction evenly, so I could play on every map with upgraded soldiers. If I knew how expensive the upgrades were, I wouldn’t have done that.
But how could I choose? All factions are unique, I want to try all of them, but 40K silver melt so fast I unlocked br1 max troopers but I can’t fill the company because it’s so expensive.

Out of random I ended up playing axis more than the rest, so I invested in that faction, and still I struggle a lot.

  • I understand this is a beta game, so this might not be relevant, and I’m hoping the steam release will improve this, but I’m currently below 30% win rate. This is extremely frustrating to queue being certain to lose.
And considering victory plays a huge part in experience gained, the grind is very hard.

  • Which leads me to the next player feeling: the grind.
It is extremely frustrating to have lv1 soldiers, with lv1 weapons, facing machine guns, planes and tanks. Recently, I was bored playing only axis, because I played the same maps over and over again for 2 weeks.
So I selected allies, to see new maps.
But I spent all my silver to equip almost decently axis troops, so I was left with basic troops and no silver to equip them.

I figured the elo would understand by BR and make me face same equipements, but I couldn’t escape the pacific beach, I was getting ripped by machineguns.

The game places me in br 1-2-3.

I don’t understand how exactly this works, but if my unit with 4 riflemen, no backpacks and basic sprinfields are facing br 3 with machinegunners, it’s not really fun.

Again, I understand this is a beta stage, and you need to fill the games, and regrouping low and high br is a good way to make sure you have enough players at all times. So I’m hoping with the steam openning this won’t be a problem anymore, and an elo system combined with BR is already set up to be deployed to give the players the best experience possible.

Having a 4 squad with basic carbines, facing players with a bit larger sqad and a bit better weapons, considering he has the same elo as me, I can deal with.

Considering I made a poor choice of spawn, or a poor choice of squad, I can manage.

I’ll see it as tactic learning and map reading

But jumping on an antipersonnal mine while I don’t even have engeneers researched… then getting shredded by machine guns… I’m only playing because I hope you are aware of these situations, and the solutions are ready to be implemented at the exit of the beta.

  • IA : This is the salt of the game. You command a squad of IA, give orders, that’s a huge change compared to other war sims.

I can’t imagine how hard it would be to code them. IA today are so powerful, they can turn into deus ex machina ( litteraly) in a simple click.
They need to be balanced, I understand that.
They react to noise, pings, silencers don’t trigger them, that’s quite nice thinking.

I know lately you worked on making them less stupid, but they still are. They give up your position when you try to destroy an enemy rally point commando style, or when you hide to let a tank pass and destroy it.

I would even add the list of commands is nice, but I have to face 10 players and handling my squad. To do so, I need keys on my keyboard so far away from fighting keys, it’s easier to order them to hide to have extra lives than give orders 1 by 1.

It would be nice if they had assigned positions that would fit a new player but still makes sense.

example as stay hidden from the enemies, based on your own POV, and act accordingly to their roles and equipement.

When you order a sqad to hold a house ( tunisia for instance) the one with the shotgun holds the door, the sniper goes to a window, the engeneer builds a sand bag, or ammo box, etc.

Nothing overpowered, just something that would make sense.

If I play shotgun I hold the door, if I play engineer, I build, if I play sniper I get to a window. An IA could do that

A good threshold of time reaction would be human average time reaction, so if I enter the house, I don’t face 10 IA acting like headless chickens.

Because as we speak, if I enter a house full of enemies, I just need to spot the one reacting to me, shoot him down, and by the time he moves to the Y key, I have enough time to kill half the IA, spot on which one he jumped, down him and finish the squad.

His squad didn’t hold anything, they are just sitting ducks, and I don’t feel like I won anything killing IA staring at me.

At this point the whole point of leading a squad to battle to make epic fights is just downed to hiding them, fight the real player in front of me, who is doing the same, die, take another Ia, rince and repeat. They bring nothing to the game than extra spawn.

  • Silver reward :

first, I spent hours on youtube trying to find videos of experienced players, who spent hours trying to understand how the numbers are connected.

Afterwards, I logged in, played, and got 600 silver. I need to unlock soldiers for my axis squads, buy weapons for allies, upgrade them as I play them.

So in order to upgrade 1 soldier, I would need to play a full day? a full week just for 1 squad? A month for 4 squads? Then if I want to play different maps another month with basic guns facing heavy troops, getting slaughtered over and over again, just to have decent troops and finally having fun?

atm, because I’m losing so often, I unlock 6k research per game. so 10 games to get to a better gun, for 1 squad in 1 faction. And barely enough gold to equip my squad.

I have a squad with 17 points I can’t use because I can’t upgrade new weapons, another one with 14. I just don’t make enough silver to unlock, equip and play.

I could buy premium and spend hundreds of dollars to keep up, for sure, but for a game in beta making my 4 basic troopers vs mines and machine guns, it’s a pay to win.

There are many free to play out there, and I’m happy to give a bit of money to support the game.
But they are truly free to play. No free to lose and pay to win. And at this stage this is the feeling I’m having about enlisted.

I truly hope you already have plans about all of these once the game is released on steam, but for now I’m playing 1 or 2 games a day, enjoying the upsides, but after 2 games the stupid IA and matchmaking just kick me out of the game.

When you release on steam, you will have a huge cross platform community coming in.

If after a week they realize nothing is really clear, the grind is hard as hell, IA are useless, they will just go on another game.

Considering the hard work you’ve done so far, and I’m basing this on the many youtube videos I’ve seen from years ago, beautiful maps, game modes, and a new way of approaching the ww2 fps with IA flooding the battlefield with no down time, all of this will go to waste because I don’t know anyone willing to play with bots giving up your position or costing you tickets, losing vs weapons they can’t unlock for a long time, making the unlock time even longer because they lost, and having to fight and have a 3rd hand to give basic orders to IA just so they don’t die because they walk the street like tourists.

Making a free to play game and basing your business model upon premium is the right approach considering the other games available, but getting premium needs to be appealing, giving extra sqads to work with is a good idea, with special troops, specific weapons, but not overpowered.
And the battlepass is nice too.

Also consider this: in a daily login mission I can unlock 300 silver ( 300! that’s 1 grenade, wow! ) by killing enemies with semi auto rifles.

I don’t have semi auto rifles…

And I’ll finish with this : weekly rewards don’t refresh, I’ve been playing for 2 weeks, and since they don’t refresh, I don’t feel the urge to play to unlock them.

When I play valorant, I have daily quests, I need to play 3 or 4 games to progress, and weekly quests to keep me playing.

The game passes are beautiful but don’t give any advantage, so if I’m short on money or don’t want what’s in it, I can pass, but if I can support the game designers I will.

This was not a rant against you.

I took quite a bit of time to write this, hoping you consider how serious I am when I say I love what you did so far, and would love to be rewarded for playing your game instead of others.
That I also acknoledge this is still a beta and you had to compromise to improve your game.

But as a player I would like more transparency about the work in progress, more reward for being here with you, and since the steam release is soon, I assume you reckon your game is ready.

I can only speak for myself, but this was an honest feedback from 1 player, and I guess I’m not the only one, and with the mass I hope will sign up on steam, for you to have a healthy ecosystem, these are major issues that will drive players away.

And this would be a shame considering how beautiful your game is, and how implementing IA is genius. Having 100 soldiers on an open map is awesome, no down time is awesome, being able to focus on support, aggressive, sneaky sniper, commando, tanker, pilot is sooooo good, everyone can play what they want.

But IA, elo, rewards and transparency are to be adressed because I think this will make a potential must play game into a casual second zone game, a " could be good, gonna log in and see if they changed a thing. Am I eating grenade launchers and mines while I’m stuck with 3 medics I can’t afford to equip? Back to brotato" game.

I thank you for the time you took to read this, and sincerely hope you have a plan for it, or will work on these points before losing players.

I believe in the project, this is why I keep login in, and took 1h of my time writing this.

Kind regards.

Germany’s veteran players all defected or quit. You simply just don’t have players on your team

That’s the way the grind is built. You have 2 options. Time or money. Either a LOT of time, or spend some money to ease the pain

The game isn’t inherently P2W. I’m almost exclusively a F2P player who just buys the BP and have a couple Preemie Squads I don’t touch. Experience and skill go a long way, and having decent guns helps. I recommend going for SMG’s and LMG’s if you’re having problems fighting with the Bolties. You’ll get used to them fairly quickly

The most p2w aspect of enlisted are slots which are locked behind premium account and then golds.

Premium squads are mostly okay. Just small amounts of weapons are clearly better than their f2p counterparts

Have I been seriously spending weeks trying to max an army while playing alone? Man this is sick, thanks.

And spending time is ok, a LOT of time… not so much lol, this is a game, not a job

I’m actually fine with bolties, It’s just enraging to have basic ones and fighting br3 rifles.

It fills the lobbies, and helps devs to spot problems, so I’m fine with it for now, but this is not really fair game, and I hope this will be fixed with the official release

The problem with play any side is that naturally you’ll be put on a less populated side as it will be the side the matchmaker is struggling to fill up - leaving you with an inate disadvantage. That’ll be why you got axis so much - the axis players are spread thinnest.

Choose a faction you like the maps for - aim to unlock an engineer squad and an assault squad and I’d personally start by fully equipping the first man in each squad. You might well find you usually outlive your ai anyway. Those are most useful to compete ASAP. Not entirely sure how the first unlocks pan out now though any more.

Once you’ve unlocked a few squads, if you’re still enjoying it - try a bit of premium time - it makes a world of difference.

Don’t bother with premium squads unless you get really invested and find something really interesting to you - they won’t give you any real advantage. Except maybe those starter squads if they’re still around - think it was about £4 for 3 days premium, a bit gold and a full squad to get you going.

You’ll start to get more out of the ai, but like you say, it’s mainly try stay alive. But they can help build stuff and cap objectives if you bring them in at the right time and they are a regular focus for the Devs.

There is 2 (technically 3) queues
BR1-3, BR3-5 and BR1-5 (only BR3 get last one)
In BR1-3 you won’t see as Axis: 85mm soviets tanks and american 76mm guns except M4A3 105.
High capacity semi-autos (like 19-20 mags +), johnson rifle, Automatic rifles and select fires (M2C, AVS-36 and AVT-40), High capacity smgs or good smgs for late tier(M2A1, (M1, M21/28, M1928A1 50 rounds and M1928A1 100 rounds) Thompsons), Tier 4 and 5 lmgs, High tier planes. It’s the least of the worries because it’s either for machine guns: 20 rounds mags or 25 rounds madsen or 47 rounds DP-27 or Lewis Gun. UPGRADE your rifle first
I have played before this game where there was campaigns and in Berlin, it was soviets w bolt actions vs germans w FG-42, Tiger 2 and Panther. So you haven’t seen the worst of it.
Also basic flamethrowers sometimes but it’s less bad.

Learn to aim at longer ranges before they can see you.

First of all just use thoses points better, like more exp for squads levels and more levels to acess.

No, you need to use the upgrades points and acess to get thoses soldiers that would access rank 5 instantly. Before it was upgrading soldiers with bronze orders and you would need to do that to EVERY soldiers

Only germany, USA and Japan get thoses in Tier2, Soviets used to have one w gold order weapons that got removed february 13th 2024. You can refresh 2 times per day one of the dailies.

Other than that, learn to play aggressively with bolt action rifles.
Grind was way harder before with needing lots of exp, now it’s silvers the problem

br3 rifles aren’t the worst, you just learn to use them and how to counter

That’s from someone who played before when there was only 2 campaigns and Berlin was in testing and joining back in late spring of 2023 where i reached lvl 32 in moscow and got a lot of the stuff in some other campaigns

If you want to play Germany, you genuinely need to invest time into your engineer squads and your rifle squads. In short they are the best early game squads because they have lots of building options/9man squad.

I am a veteran player and I play mostly high BR Axis but I love low BR games. I primarily am just a BRV player because of my Fw-190 D12 and my Luftfaust rocketlauncher. I use the MP40 and K98 in most of my squads as the primary weapons, and it’s enjoyable playing with just bolt guns and simple SMGs. I loved the Moscow campaign and I wish I could play just that. lol.

Thanks for all the answers people.

My main issue was the concern about feelings of a new player.

Entering a battlefield with a basic gun, not upgraded, and facing BR3 players feels like shit.

As someone said, you will outlive IA, but IA is why I tried the game, so why bother if it’s not even worth equip them. sometimes I spawn, and all my squad is insta dead, why do I have a squad, how did they die, then I see thee other IA and I know they were just standing in the open not doing anything.

I just shared a new player feeling a bit before official launch, so the devs could have a feedback of a new player and work on some things, because I assume all of you vets who have been playing for years know all the stuff, tried it all, saw it grow, but new players won’t.

And I can see how beautiful the game is, I’m sharing my experience as a new player because there will be a lot of them soon, and they will experience the same as me. The game is so beautiful my cats come sleep on my pc because it’s getting warm lol.

So empty lobbies with only bots to fill the map, unlocking first research and facing br3 players, IA that get instakilled or give away your position, etc etc, all of these are frustrating, and I know they are working on it, I only hope there will be an elo system as well as BR, so I face similar equipment, and same experienced players.

I don’t wan’t to face your br1 squads on a map you know like the back of your hand while I don’t even know where to go lol, I’d love to be lost with other lost players.

This way, winning or losing won’t matter.

But being destroyed by someone who knows the map so well he knows how to spawn kill you, that’s shit.

The other day I was carried by a guy with 120k score (I had 4k) . He definitely did the entire game. maybe he had fun ( I doubt it, think he raged we were so bad) , but this level difference was not fun for me neither.

But as you said, being axis, I was lucky to play with experienced player vs full bot team.

Was a win, but not a satisfying one. He just got me on his backpack and carried me, I didn’t know the map, was lost, tried to snipe enemies from stupid angles.

I’d love to be with players my lv, with IA easy to command and not standing in the middle of the streets.

That’s it.

Just a feedback from non experienced player, as many will come very soon, I thought this would help the devs to organize stuff for the steam release.

An insight of a new player, knowing some things are flawed because it’s beta ( and I didn’t even know I had empty lobbies lol), counting there will be ( I hope because the game is really beautiful) millions of new players soon.

And please make new players not face vets until they understand the game, this is the worse experience in a game.

On youtube it’s fun to see br5 playing with friends with crazy tactics, but playing as a noob, I want to play with and vs noobs.

And when I’ll learn how to play I’ll slowly catch up in elo and hopefully play with you guys.

This is why I did a post about things I thought were really annoying for a new player.

After all this is beta, the whole point is to get feedback for devs from players.

I saw a lot of feedback from vets, not many from new players.

Just hope it helps them.

the “get better” part I’ll handle it. But to get better I need to play, and I don’t want to play empty lobbies, jump on mines I will unlock in 2 br, and not be able to buy stuff for my squads that reward my playing.

Those points I have, I can’t use because I already maxed all I could in the squad. All guns upgraded to the max, all have a side arm I don’t even use, all have extra ammo packs.

And still I can’t afford my last 2 soldiers in the squad, because 600 silver per game, or reward I don’t have guns for, 3K per soldier is too much.

Again, not bitching, not ranting, just how it feels for a new player to play all the maps in good conditions, because there are soooo many beautiful things to explore. Vs players the same lv as me, and IA actually usefull when I command them to hold a position^^.

I know it’s a hard work for devs, but beta means they want feedback before release.
Also means I have to accept some stuff I wouldn’t in normal times, because it’s for the better future of the game.

Maybe I won’t be pro, but I’d love to play on a regular basis, so I just share personnal feelings, so the game improves.
