I just have a question about the new planes in the Pacific campaign. I noticed that AP-1 has way better guns (like 4 guns total) and the B5N2 only has one on the back. I am curious how is it fair? ( I don’t play the Allied side, so I don’t have the AP-1)
I wonder if the pilots back then asked the same thing. I understand you mean game wise
But i think history wise, the idea of this thing was to outrun fighters, and just strike.
Game wise, I hear it fly’s circles around everything and has good bombs…but havent tried it myself
The B5N and the Avenger (TBF-TBM) were the same type of plane Torpedo bomber/leval bomber.
Neither was able to outrun a Fighter plane.
The B5N was an early war plane the Avenger circa mid 42, the early TBF had one forward facing gun, one gun in its dorsal turret and one in a ventral bay.
Some Kats were supposedly capable of carrying one forward firing gun in its outer wing, afik the Avengers and the not really carried Kates forward firing gun were for suppressing AA fire on there attack runs.
The Avenger is really easy to shoot down, so I don’t think its defensive guns are to destabilizing.
The B5N is nice though, i spent a lot of time with mine today.
When I said idea, idea is very different to in practice. Choosing the idea of outrunning over adding more armor/weight.

I was wondering whether to go back to D3A1 Val once maxed out B5N Kate, but somehow Kate has stayed in my line up as viable bomber, it is rare you get to do a lot with forward guns, I have my Ki61 for bombers…
There is a balance to all this. Because the IJN fighters are more powerful than the Yankees.
I would say there not really, they certainly handle better, but the US fighters are very lethal.
If I avoid the temptation of trying to turn fight with the Japanese, I do fine with the American Fighters.
Anything and everything (mostly) can be deadly in the hands of an experienced veteran of the game. Whether its bolt actions or aircraft, they will stop you or the enemy.
There is no fairness in this game. in normandi american planes are removing everything and DF decide to give a huge nerf on all aa guns.
