Faction Numbers Balance

Has there been any thought given to some mechanism balancing the number of players between factions within a campaign? E.g. to stop the matches where there are ~1.5x as many players on one team versus the other. Those tend to make for extremely short, extremely boring matches.

Some similar faction-based MP games make do with a XP multiplier for the outnumbered faction, proportional to the degree to which the numbers are unbalanced. Alternatively, artificially extend the queue times for players attempting to join the overstaffed side, or slowed respawn time within a match.

It’s just…it’s been days since I saw a match that wasn’t an absolute blowout where the outcome wasn’t even close, and almost every one of those ended in favor of the side with far more players in the match. I can’t imagine that that’s fun for those players, either.

Been suggested a lot, but nothing has ever come of it.

I was afraid of that. Guess I’ll keep going with the current plan: Just stop playing the game for a day or two every time you see a series of unbalanced blowouts.

I just treat it like a game and don’t commit to grinding.

playing with friends or listening to music can also be extremely helpful

It depends on the opponent. There are guys here who can and are willing to win a 2 vs. 10 match if the other 10 are not much above average.

I wish this one. Advertised on match making screen:

  • all-time 1.2x XP multiplier if “Join any team” is selected
  • “Germans enlisting in Berlin for 2x XP multiplier” alerted on matchmaking screen when the team balance requires more players
  • depending on the end game situation, 1.5x / 2x XP multiplier if the other faction is much better because half the team left early on (not for last 3 minutes, but like at start of a conquest, or mid-game when they start losing)

Last one is not that necessary once the bots become as good as average players (without obvious cheating like sniping through bushes or unreasonable 180 degree turning and headshotting), which is not that far away I think, another half year or year maybe if they keep improving them.

This happens a lot I think. One side it’s almost instant play, other side it’s 2 minutes wait times. But if everybody keeps waiting, it does not help much, matchmaker gains 2 minutes in every 20-30 minutes - impossible to even out a 2x bigger player base. There could be a message to alert you about the broken team balance. (I wonder whether that would make even more people leave the losing side or not…)
A button popping up after 45 seconds to “Join the other side for quick start and extra XP” maybe.

That’s a new idea for me. It does not look fair, but would slow down the steamrolls for sure if. The opposite was present for US side in Normandy (5 sec spawn time instead of 10 or something like that) and there were a lot of bug reports about it, so I guess it would not be welcomed if they lose due to this.

This happened a lot in Normandy and Moscow with Germans for me, playing US[SR] was almost 100% win for a while (EU/EEU time zone and server). Now it’s more even or sometimes in favor of Germans, but e.g. in lone fighter I don’t remember winning with Germany too often.

Side note: as Rickyd123 mentioned, teaming up with others and actively voice chatting may make the “deserted” side more winnable, though I never tried it. Which faction/map are you having issues with currently, on which server/time zone?

Team with ragequitters should definetly NOT be rewarded. Also 2x reward is bigger then reward for winning so no

Assuming I’m not among the ragequitters, I don’t fully understand the logic behind.
I’m a player staying till the end in the heavily losing team, trying to turn the match or at least prevent a total disaster.

Whenever I exit the spawn protection, I get shot from 5 different directions simultaneously, endure this for 7 more minutes, end up with 6-15 kills at most, and like 700-1500 XP.
Other team playing the same match will receive 3000 XP or more for butchering the bot squads around me.

2x700 XP would be an unsettling 1400 XP altogether, acknowledging the fact that I was left deep in botland.

It’s not the 200 kills/40000 XP range we’re talking about…
But to make it worth switching sides when the game is unbalanced.

Interesting, I didn’t know that it was that way on EU. I’m on NA, and here for almost all ww2 FPS games that I’ve tried it’s the German faction(s) that tend to attract the powergame/tryhard types (and then there’s WT, where Germany attracts the players who think that they’re elite players…). Playing Moscow as the USSR was a very even match for me, although that was after the Berlin campaign had opened.

Right now, I’m trying to play through Berlin as the Germans, and I suspect that most of the high-skill/dedicated players from this faction have jumped over to Tunisia.
