Eyes in the Skies: Liaison Flyover Radio Call

“Recon is in the Air!”

Hello vro…

this has probably been suggested before but here is my take on the idea

keeping this easy to understand and brief, I hereby propose a new radio call to be added into the game, the Liaison Flyover

what does it do?

/ the Liaison Flyover would serve as a radio call in, where it calls up a faction-unique liaison aircraft to fly over the battlefield in a straight line, giving long-lasting marks to the following:

  • Rally Points
  • Ammo boxes
  • Medical Boxes
  • Built Weaponry (AT, AA, MG, HMG, Ampulomet)

/ it will also give normal marks to the FIRST soldier it sees PER SQUAD, the mark will not move, but it helps give a rough idea of where a whole squad might be, there is no limit to how many squads it can mark, but it only gives 1 mark per squad it sees based on the first soldier seen belonging to that squad

/ the Liaison Flyover ONLY MARKS WHAT IT CAN “see” VIA DIRECT LINE OF SIGHT FROM ABOVE, if something is mostly or fully in a building or something is obstructing it to be reasonably seen from directly above, it will not mark it. SOLDIERS WHO ARE PRONE WILL NOT BE MARKED. And just like with the Saboteur class, it will reward XP for every mark it gives

/ when called in, the announcer of both teams will warn of incoming recon plane, and the targeted line will appear on the map as a yellow, differing itself from both the color of marks and other artillery, the speed of the plane will be slightly slower than a paradrop plane, and can be shot down just like one.

/ the Liaison Flyover will have a cooldown of 60-90 seconds per player, but THE QUE IS NOT EFFECTED BY OTHER RADIO CALL-INS, and but is effected by other Liaison Flyovers

how can i use such a thing?

/ the Liaison Flyover will be useable by some combination of Radio Squads, Sniper Squads, and Mortar Squads, and will serve as the final non-unit squad upgrade in the respective squad upgrade tree(s)

/ to use the Liaison Flyover, it will act in a similar manner to calling in a Smoke Artillery, however it differs with having a 2-click system with a fixed length, no changing the size of the path, only direction. On console this can be traded for a one-button press with a joystick rotating line of the same fixed length

why would i use such a thing?

/ knowing is half the battle, and the ability to either spot out whats hidden behind sightlines or just reveal enemy en mass, this will allow another helpful tool for teamwork and your own AI

/ while i don’t encourage sniping a lot, it will be a way to where the squads that prefer to hang back a bit more can help in another way, planes and bombers and other things that ask for enemy coordinates but get none

/ yes i know this fills the technical role of a saboteur, but that class was limited (albeit fun), and this won’t take up a squad slot

other things to note

/ i am unsure of exactly what planes could be used for each faction but the ones i imagine would be the best fit are thus:

WESTERN ALLIES - Piper L-4 “grasshopper”
WESTERN AXIS - Fi 156 “storch”
USSR - Po-2
JAPAN - Ki-76

if you guys have anything to note or suggestions please share  this was just a afternoon thought of mine

  • Liaison Flyover for Radio Squads
  • Liaison Flyover for Sniper Squads
  • Liaison Flyover for Mortar Squads
  • No Liaison Flyover at all
  • perhaps, a test first…

DH.98 Mosquito…would have to be faster than the paratrooper plane, though.

For pacific maps I would try the Nakajima E8N and for rest the one you suggested

This would be a good thing, for pilots in the skies of course. However it needs a test.

i agree that major features such as this would need a test
if only i had modding skills

Damn I lowkey forgot about that lmao

The only issue I can think of is that the plane, like the bombing raid, will take up lots of time, if it acts like a radio call-in. Other than that, the idea sounds fun!
