After 40 hours of playtime and learning to both play tanks (recording 101 kills and 118 assists one match) and learning to counter tanks as both the bomber class, I’ve come to realise that the readily available explosion pack is way too powerful.
The fact that you can hold the timer on an explosion pack, throw it on the tank from a blind spot and instantly wipe the whole squad inside is both too easy and way too unfair as a game mechanic.
The problem I want to raise here is that if every single soldier in the game can hold an explosion pack and wipe a tank without them being able to counter it (with the right timing etc)… what is the point of the bomber class?
The allied bomber class on the Normandy campaign has the PIAT which is slow, somewhat clunky, often hits the floor if you’re lying down when firing it and only does damage depending on where it hits the tank (just like tank rounds do) and, depending on the users experience with the piat, will fire straight over the tank due to the range etc.
Why would anyone actually bother using this class vs an assault class, engineer class, gunner class etc and bringing along 1 or more explosion packs and doing the job for them as well as being an incredible way to wipe enemy soldiers too?
If it’s just that I’m bad at using the bomber class or have misunderstood the purpose of them then I do apologies. I just want to ask this question and raise my concerns about the excessive use of the explosion packs.
The detpacks are awesome for balancing tanks effectively. People cant whine and complain about tanks being “op” if they have the most powerful AT option in every single squad. The bomber class is to offer an antitank rifle to people who wanna use it’s range and in later campaigns use the powerful AT rockets.

People just don’t play AT all that much so they don’t care, neither they play tanks as they keep vehicle slot for attack planes. IMHO explosive packs should be limited to bombers and engineers. They where used to deal with fortifications, there weren’t as many of them as we have in the game right now. If packs are limited, more people will bring AT squads and tanks and then we should have a proper dynamics.
Try taking out german tanks out of the combat zone camping on D DAY - you can do that using PIAT at range of 140 - 160m atleast I learned to do that, you can not reach them with a demo pack. They still have use.
I agree that they have a use for range which I think anyone could figure out. What I don’t get is that other anti-tank measures are available to literally every other squad via a simple timed explosive. I agree with ViiK who suggests that the explosive packs should be a bomber limited item to make more people want to use the class
I agree here Viik. Bombers and Engineers should 100% be more for the explosion packs. I also think engineers should be able to repair friendly tanks too.
yeah I figured that much out lmao but if that’s the only upside to bringing the bomber class then it’s not really a great one. I think, as ViiK suggested, the det packs should be a class locked grenade so there’s still that balance but there’s not an excessive spam of them.
Ah but that’s a rather long-winded way to heal friendly tanks as you’d need to either sacrifice your healing or bring a backpack and also go out your way to buy tools for that soldier etc. Would just make more sense to put it into the Engineers role
One way to get attention to this topic is by systematically abusing this mechanic. What I do now, is some squads get a large grenade pack. So a team of 6 engineers has in total 6x4 explosive packs, it’s even better if I get some grenade perks on them too. Sadly bots are bugged and don’t throw packs properly at the direction of the tank, but just on my own I can spam those for a while. As a cherry on the top, when only one pack left, just do a suicide run.
I think what I’m getting at really is that Anti tank grenades should be class limited, as ViiK suggested and that Anti-tank mines should be more viable. I don’t think I’ve ever gotten a mine kill or seen anyone place them before. It would still give players the balance they want but also bring more of a fulfilling purpose to roles such as the bomber instead of them having a single upside of there being range with the anti-tank tools compared to the infinitely more accessible explosive packs.
I see what you mean. Yeah that would be nice but it’s sort of going around the mechanics that is already in the game. The current meta is that some of the soldiers in your squad, can have specific support roles. Like all my engineers / trooper are packed with either 4 explosives or 4 med kits, depends on which skills they rolled.
I’ve tried using mines and they are quire finicky. Placing them anywhere where a bomb, arty or any kind of grenade can explode is useless and they blow up very easily. So the “best” place is to mine the road directly from the tank spawn in the grey zone. Which can be done only on some maps + takes a lot of time to flank.
I found a use for them which is to place them, stand on top and shoot them as it does the same effect as the explosive pack suicide run if it’s close enough to a tank lmao.
Yes, that would be a good replacement for det pack spam. I’m surprised that AT grenades are not in the game already. There was a huge variety of them and they where issued to regular troops.
There is a larger problem here and that’s that there will be more tanks coming out. We need det packs to counter the larger and larger tanks (panther, tiger etc) that will render AT weapons even more useless all though I find them great against sides and those pesky pumas
