Big credit first to the earlier thread on extending slots (“Extend decals and decorations slots from 4 up to 8 or even 10”). That post made the case for more slots very well, and I don’t want to re-litigate it. But I think there’s a missing half of the picture that hasn’t been talked about: even with more slots, there’s barely anything worth putting in them.
Dropped 900 gold just to give this poor vehicle some extra sandbags. Hey, makes me feel safe, doesn’t it? (haha)
The real problem is that these two things are stuck together. More slots with a tiny decoration pool means nothing to fill them with. A bigger pool with only two slots means you can’t show any of it off. We need to fix both at once — and there’s a way to do it that’s almost free for the developers.
The Current State
Vehicle customization in Enlisted has two tracks: camouflages and decorations. Camouflages mostly cost Gold unless it’s the default paint, and decorations work like this:
- 2 decoration slots for standard players, 4 with Premium — same for decals.
- No free decorations at all; everything costs Gold.
- Items are single-vehicle only — buy a sandbag for one tank, and you can’t use it on another (you can stack copies on the same vehicle, but only as many as you bought).
- The bush limit is 2 (even with Premium).
And I want to be upfront: I’m not asking for more bushes.
The 2-bush limit is fine, and it’s the right call for an FPS — bushes actually affect gameplay by breaking up a vehicle’s silhouette. That’s a competitive balance concern, and I respect it. This post is strictly about non-functional decorations — the stuff that just makes your tank look like it’s been through a war.
The Problem: The Pool Is Tiny and the Slots Are Tight
The decoration selection right now is genuinely thin. Just to illustrate:
- Infantry gear: only a Soviet and a German set, and even those are faction-locked.
- Instruments: three total.
- Beyond that, a handful of misc items — a helmet, a horseshoe, some small arms, a doll.
All together, the variety on offer is barely more than the number of bushes I’m allowed to place — and I can only use two of those. So as a player with a little spare Gold, the “rational” choice is almost always to buy the two biggest bushes and call it a day, rather than trying to dress my tank up like the cluttered, lived-in vehicles you see in real wartime photos.
And honestly — that’s what most of us actually want this system for. The developers already limited bushes for balance, which tells us the remaining decoration slots are meant for exactly this: personalization. The “look at this Panzer IV, it’s loaded down with gear like it just rolled off the front line” feeling. That’s the fun. But the current system can’t deliver it, because there’s neither the space nor the stuff.
Took the opportunity to flex my garbage editing skills lol😇
The Proposal: Reuse What’s Already In the Game
Here’s the part that I think makes this a genuinely easy ask. The game already contains a huge amount of purely decorative scenery that’s sitting unused in the editor and on the maps:
- Crates and wooden boxes
- Fuel drums and jerry cans
- Planks, logs, and timber
- Tarpaulins and canvas bags
- Backpacks and assorted pouches
- …even little things like toy cars
I spent some time in the editor stacking these props onto a vehicle to see what’s possible, and the result is exactly the “loaded-down veteran vehicle” look that the current decoration shop can’t achieve. (screenshots below)
Some lumber
A few bag… looks familiar, right?![]()
Some big stuff too — just for show, naturally don’t worry, zero actual utility![]()
I genuinely did not expect to find cherry blossoms here — and even a samurai helmet.A bit out of place on a WWII battlefield… but honestly it’s really cool.
The suggestion is simple: take some of these existing props and turn them into placeable vehicle decorations. No new modeling required, no new assets to build from scratch — the work is mostly rigging existing objects to the decoration system. For a team that the community knows has real workload and priority constraints, this is about as cheap a win as there is. And it’s a win for everyone:
- Players get the customization depth they’ve been asking for, and a reason to actually spend Gold on it.
- Developers get a new, low-effort revenue stream — more decorations means more Gold purchases, which is the whole point of a cosmetics market.
Right now, the customization system feels like it’s leaving money on the table. More slots + more (cheap-to-produce) items = more purchases. That’s not a sacrifice for the devs; it’s a good deal for them.
On Fairness
I want to head off the obvious concern: doesn’t stacking more junk on a tank hurt gameplay balance? I’d argue no — and here’s why this is different from bushes:
- These props are small, non-functional, and don’t cover a vehicle’s key silhouette the way bushes do.
- They provide zero concealment value — a crate or a jerry can isn’t going to hide your weak spots or break up your outline at range.
- They’re pure cosmetics
The bush limit stays at 2. These decorations are a separate category, and they don’t touch the competitive side of the game.
The Ask
- Expand the decoration pool by reusing existing map/editor props (crates, barrels, logs, tarps, backpacks, etc.), with minimal-to-no new asset work.
- Increase decoration and decal slots — up to 8 (or 10 with Premium) per category, as the earlier thread argued — so players actually have room to use the new items.
- Keep the 2-bush limit unchanged. This post is not about bushes.
I know the team has priorities and workload to juggle, that’s precisely why the “reuse existing props” part matters,it’s the lowest-effort path to a meaningful improvement, and it’s also a way to open up a cosmetics market that’s currently sitting half-built.
