Serial No. 940 chambered in 7x57mm. 17.25" barrel. Manufactured in 1904. Rare of the Rarest Mauser with a production time of only 2 years. 20,000 were made with fewer than 40 examples known to exist. It is known that German did send some of these rifles to Mexico and rechambered to 7x57mm during WWI to stir up problems on the border with the U.S.
Most of which were issued to the Schutstruppe in Africa and to the Deutches Ostasiatische Expeditionkorps, making examples rare due to hard use in harsh environments.
When the Danish Coastal Police was formed under German occupation to patrol the Danish shores, they needed rifles. Rather than use valuable military arms, the government turned to the noted sporting and target rifle manufacturer Schultz & Larsen to make a military version of the Model 36 target rifle. The new weapon was a bolt action chambered in the Danish 8x58R cartridge, with a 4-round magazine capacity.
