Its very annoying. I’ve sent 3 soldiers to the academy and they all had grenades with them, with only one coming back I lost 2 grenades worth 2 supply points each. I think that equipment should be stripped from soldiers when they are sent to the academy and it should go back to the players inventory.

currently there is “unequip unnecessary items” option on each soldier. Sure, it is inconvenient, but for the time being its good enough. Try to make sure that you are sending to academy soldiers without equipment.
You get the equipment back, that the two soldiers who “do not pass the academy finals” had on them - but only after the academy is finished…
Just check the inventory for knives after a while: You’ll have tons of them…
