I have a feeling that this combo is a bit too OP.
- CQC weapons are meta if you want to play the objectives (as they should). So any squad with good CQC capabilities is must have if you want to play the objective (as you should).
- Engineer squad is the only squad capable of building AT gun, building AAA, building MG nest. So they can head any kind of enemy if they have 5s to prepare.
In my opinion combining those two into one, creates ultimate must have unit. It can rush CQC, destroy aircraft, destroy tanks at any range and mow down infantry with MG nest.
My solution: only assaulters should be able to have shotguns as they are the intended CQC class.
An MG or SMG is a lot more value than a shotgun though.
Berlin shotguns for instance get 2 rounds, Russian moscow gets 2 rounds. You can kill 2 people at most, sometimes more if they clump up very tightly, with an MG or SMG you can mow down an entire squad with ease and still have left-over ammo.
They look fine to me.
With MG and SMG squad you can’t build AT, MG, AAA.
I’m not talking about only the weapon but about the synergy of the weapon and the squad.
Only Engineer II can build MGs which take work to get, removing shotguns would punish Engineer I.
AT isn’t all that useful without team mates to mark targets so you can build it in cover and shoot through foliage, AAA is kinda meh as well. It works better against infantry than it does against actual planes. You can shoot down a plane faster with your bolt action or SMG than with the dedicated AA emplacement.
Giving shotguns to Assaulters would be pretty meaningless considering SMGs are more value in every situation. They would end up as a very niche gun used by bad players that don’t know better for the most part.
We don’t know if engi I will have shotguns at all. Maybe they will be unlocked by engi II. So this one is unsolved.
I wouldn’t say. Shure you can’t build it in front of the tank that is aiming at you (just like with detpacks if driver has a brain) but you don’t have to hide in the bush to build it.
One day it will be fixed (hopefully). So I don’t count it, as it’s “short term” benefit.
It’s a different weapon that provides different gameplay. If you like it or not is up to you.
And you haven’t addressed MG nest that is the biggest issue.
shotguns are actually really strong if im giving an honest opinion, when i used em in moscow and berlin campaigns i could take out multiple soldiers if they were in close proximity to each other from like 70-80 feet in a single shot…
They’re strong in specific situations yes, if it’s extremely CQC like in some Berlin maps, they can be useful, though if there’s a lot of people squeeze in one room, an MG34 for instance will still come out on top as it can mow down everyone before they can react to your presence, minus the AI snap-shotting.
Shotguns are kinda iffy really, niche weapon that is only useful on specific circumstances. Though the german shotgun range is high, that thing acts like a discount gewehr half the time.
