So, Hopefully I’m not repeating an already started topic, but, My 2 pence concerning the engineers is the build mechanic and how it seems alittle… off.
Would it be feasable to change it so that the engineer can only build items relevant to the squad that they are deployed with?
Of couse, when deployed with the engineering squad, they can build everything, but for example, when an engineer is deployed with the recon squad, being able to contruct an AA gun seems a little… peculiar.
What I’m trying to say is that it would increase people picking particular squads if they know that the engineer is more useful to that unit, so AT infantry can build the PaK or ZiS guns, and the Czech Hedgehogs while an engineer in the MG squad can build MG nests.
I have other ideas with the MGs nests but for now, i’m keeping it on this subject.
Also, building hedgehogs in windows is real annoying and just looks wrong, but I digress.
I would like these. But instead of giving the MG squad MG nest, I think these should be used as a balancing metric to fill the gaps that certain squads have. For example, the rifleman squad could use that MG way more than the MG squad. Heck, I think most of the automatic weapon squads do not even need an offensive (MG/AA/AT) building at all. Just ammo crates, barbed wire, hedgehogs and sandbags

I was even toying with the idea that the Gunner carried a tripod mounted MG that had to be deployed like the mortar (placed down and only useable from the tripod) instead of an MG Nest. That way you would have to decide if you wanted a portable but magazine fed support (i.e ZB26) or a heavier, belt/ drum fed LMG that required time to set up but would be a better fire support.
That way it would be strategic in nature and only useable by that specific squad.
But that deviates from the original topic
.
I do feel the engineers need work though, and the rifle squad definitely could use a bit more firepower.
Maybe once bipods work.
LMGs are very niche as it stands now because the recoil-reduction only applies when you’re prone, and going prone blocks your line of sight in most situations. Once we get bipods, machine gunners can actually set up effectively on window sills, fences, and etc.
Engineer-placed MGs are much more reliable once they’re up, granted they’re also a lot harder to hide.
