Engineer rework?

a rework to engineers may help then become more useful

-the build order for AI should be a toggle mode for the AI to just build any blueprints near me

  • instead of ten wires, ten sandbags and six hedgehogs/tanktrap it could just be a general pool limit on defensive items, so you can build upto any combination of 26 defensive items instead of just 10/10/6 of each
  • hedgehogs/tanktraps should only really be able to be dismantled by other engineers, but in turn the traps would need a small placement rework since people use them to block of buildings( has to be more then 1-2 meters away from buildings)
  • add more sandbag options, having an option to sandbag up windows with a snap-to-window option would be great and even better if we could put one in with a small hole to shoot out of

ideas that other people have said

  • the engineer class having access to shotguns
  • the engineer squads having flametroopers

  1. Engineer’s are already the most useful class in the game by virtue of the RP alone, not sure they need any more buffing. However;

  2. Re: blocking off buildings, this is a serious problem. Was playing the lumber yard map the other day and Axis used AA guns (how are they able to build so many??) to block every single door inside and outside the factory objective. It’s impossible to climb over them or around them, so no one on the Russian team could even get into the objective building. Probably the most obvious cheating/exploit I’ve ever seen in the game, and definitely needs to be addressed.

once they build a respawn point they dont offer much more

they build 2 then throw a det pac on them then build two more and so on

You can dismantle them by pressing J. It is not cheating or exploiting if attackers refuse to use mechanics that are available for them.
Of course, it takes some time, but it is definetely not an obstacle that is impossible to overcome.

they take so long to dismantle and they can also set you on fire

That’s true. It can be a bit hard, but definetely not enough to call it cheating.
And if you manage to dismantle few of them, the defenders will not be able to build the new ones in the middle of firefight.

But it also takes a lot of time and determination to prepare such “barricade”. So in this situation I see a team of cooperating engineers (it would be too much work for only one player) that used their brains and tools available for them to win the game. Meanwhile the attacking team expected to just rush in with their SMGs and was not able to adapt properly.

“Dismantling” them takes a full minute, and you are literally in a murder hole the entire time, and they did this for every door in the building. It’s obviously not feasible and makes an objective that was already difficult to take impossible (this is all after fording the river under fire).

It’s exploiting a bug (not being able to climb over the obstacles, which are only waist height) to wildly throw the careful balance of the map out of play. It’s clearly not the way the developers intended the map or the mechanic to be used, and there is no effective way to counter it. Yes, it is cheating.

30 seconds if you are using a engineer but due to how mundane they are not one really uses them other then to put down a respawn point

It takes exactly 22 seconds with normal soldier, 12 seconds with engineer and 8 seconds if your engineer has building speed perk. If you call your bots for help they are able to dismantle the AA gun in 6 seconds (6 bots with no engineer between them).
So the tools are there for you to use. If you worry about getting shot in the process, throw some smoke grenades.

As for climbing over them. I have to give it to you, it is a bit buggy, but again, defenitely not impossible. You need to climb exactly in the middle of the gun, between the guns. The only problem then will be the fire, so I would advise to dismantle them anyway to make safe way for you, your bots and your team.

maybe if we could outright destroy them from a distance

Yeah, that could work for big caliber guns from Pz IV or T-28 for example.

You’re definitely one of the people who pulls this shit, arent u

lets be civil

Yea it also wouldn’t be a big deal of det-packs could clear them

or just a HP pool and once its drained it just implodes, so AT rifles and weapons can remove them

I personally prefer combination of barbed wire and mines, so no, I’m not one of those people.

But I admire other engineer players who are able to prepare succesfull barricades. Especially when they are working together.
I also really don’t like the situations when people are giving false statements about some mechanics being OP/cheating/exploiting without fully acknlowledging their own set of tools to deal with said mechanics.

The defenders can’t build a rally beacon inside the factory, so they can’t get inside either. Just kill the defenders inside with bullets, TNT or a flamethrower and the factory will be yours once you dismantle a single AAA and re-block that entry

It is kind of an exploit. You can have only limited number of hedgehogs but you can built virtually unlimited number of AA wreckage because devs clearly didn’t thought they would be used that way. Also if you don’t have many human players on your side it is deadly because full bot squads never dismantle them and always look for detour which often sends them into death trap and somebody is farming them easily.
You have to dismantle them in one go and long one - dismantling progress is not saved so when you need to engage enemy or somebody throws a grenade you can start all over. It is not rewarding task. You get no XP and your squad is very likely going to die. AA wreckage is very hard to destroy from range compared to things that were meant to act as obstacles. But people started to use tank wreckage to block spawn/objective doorways and that is much worse because you simply cannot dismantle them.
