So been thinking a lot about engineers and I feel their kit lacks a bit of the bang it needs to have a good engineer turn the tide of a battle for a team. While some of this might be hard / impossible to implement it’s just thought I had that might make it more enjoyable. I’m moderatley new to the game with maybe 40-50h played only so I might miss some info, but feel like overall a lot of capture points at this point are near impossible to set up a good defense on that’s not struggling with tight corners and limited kill areas (like whoever has the best reflexes wins the stairs fight and that’s it) and with the squad gameplay setting up in a sneaky corner doesn’t do much good as he will know here you are the next time he enters.
*New action - Bar door / window, adds the ability to put up a makeshift block for a door / window blocking quick access and grenades (somewhat but not perfectly) but easily destroyed with a melee / or shooting at it. More to cause an inconvenience and possibly make enemies take a more prefered route into the building you’re defending.
All Engineers -
- Rally points now grant points for kills scored with rifles / grenades within 90s of a squad spawning.
- Enemies killed while having interacted with barbwire grants a small amount of points.
- Sandbags now have a half broken state and survive more than a sneeze (or grenade) possibly make them vulnerable to anti tank weapons (pass through and explode) so that bombers can help “siege” fortifications.
- AA, AT and MG positions can now be refilled with an action instead of having to tear them down and rebuild for an equal cost but a shorter time. MG nests can also have the MG restored for a small cost.
Engineer 2 now get upgraded buildings for defense:
- AA turret now has a higher traverse and aim speed, slight boost to RoF and a larger ammo capacity before reload.
- AT Carries more ammo, and a faster traverse and RoF (both of these similar to tank upgrades)
- MG nest now get an upgraded MG and a better sandbag defense.
- Sandbags now come with the added option of barbed wire at the bottom at an increased cost.
- Rally points now have a slightly lower audio que, with the option of adding a small amout of vegetation cover.
- All applicable structures now gain camo paint / added bushes and shrubbery to better be able to conceal them in woodlines etc.
- New structure sandbag bunker: Circular sandbag fortification with 2 doorways and gun slits on the sides as well as a camo net on top, ideal for placing a more defended rally point
And just the ability to destroy your own rally points remotely no matter if you’re playing as the engineer squad or not. Because watching your good rally sit behind and not being able to place a new one on invasion maps without going back to destroy it sucks.
The general idea here isn’t to make engineers OP but more to encourage defensive gameplay, and it shouldn’t be something that you throw up in 10 seconds while your enemie regroups but rather something you do to fortify a cap over a bit of time. A possible needed balance change would be to limit number of engineering structures within a certain radius so you can’t just fill a house with a million things to block it entirely.
how about they remove the AT/AA turret from engineer and replace with Medical Crate and Grenade Box for refilling med kits and grenades, the Medical Crates could have like 10 or 15 medkits in them total and the Grenade Box could function generally the same way but with like 20-25 grenades total
And then add a Mechanized Light Vehicle Utility Squad
Vehicle 1: Half track with multiple configurations you could be given the choice between an AT cannon or a Mounted MG42 Machine gun for the back of the Half Track,
the AT cannon could make it so you only have 4 seats Driver, Passenger, Gunner and Loader
and
the Mounted MG42 Machine gun could give you 7 seats Driver, Passenger, Gunner, and 4 Extra seats in the rear
Vehicle 2: Jeep with Towed Heavy Guns like the Oerliken or the M45 Quadmount or the Vickers Cannons etc…
Vehicle 3: Ordnance Supply Truck with grenade/mine medkits/tools & regular/heavy ammo for guns/throwers/cannons and turrets these supplies can be picked up and placed to create usable supply boxes for your team. this vehicle also functions as a mobile spawn beacon.
Just feels like vehicles would be a lot easier to counter and hiding away a AT gun on a side flank to smack tanks would be harder, vehicles overall aren’t ideal for making people focus more on objective play and less on farming kills since you need to exit it to cap.
Also taking out a AA truck with a bomb / rocket from a plane would be easier than a AA nest hidden away in a more covered position with decent camo etc. and putting a MG truck in a good position where you can cover an approach would take a lot more luck to not just have a explosive pack dropped in your back seat compared to sneaking an engineer through some buildings.
My side goal of these changes were to add a lot of value in actually defending points on conquest not just running around from point to point like some CoD clone.
the game is too fast-paced and the maps are too small the engineers cannot show all their skills an engineer should be able to place aa-at-artillery, repair tanks, build bridges, trenches etc … but the game makes them good only for rally points and some defense wiped out by the artillery attack this applies even if there was a medical team
well that’s the risk with light vehicles but they are also a lot quicker so getting away from a terribly cooked explosive pack would be much easier, the real threat to light vehicles would be the bombers rocket launchers or the troopers grenade launchers cause a single one of those would turn a light vehicle into a bonfire pit lol
they would also have to make light vehicles repairable with the Tools item… cause they currently aren’t
anything short of concrete bunklers placed would be instantly wiped out by endless bomb/artillery spam. Good idea in theory I just don’t think it really jives with the current state of the game.
also with my idea to remove AT/AA guns from engineers and replace them with 2 other supply crates Grenade & Medkit Crates, engineer’s would be a lot more useful for holding a capture point down since you’d be able to restock all your stuff and not just die when your downed a 2nd time due to you just being inside the blast radius of an explosion without a medkit…
