Easy to Implement Suggestion on Better Match Making

Why not let people play a role? Or at least, their preferred one?

Some players are going to choose a plane almost all the time, or a tank, or sniping, etc. Why not let them pick that role (not saying they HAVE to, but what their preference is) and that way, you don’t have, like I just did, a team of all ranged players with only 2-3 of us going for strategic points.

With only ten players per team, you can’t afford to have five snipers on a team. It should be easy to implement from the DEV side.

This type of thing is mandatory for RPG style MMOs - where they’ll need healer, tank and DPS. In other games, like Overwatch, they require things like - can’t have any duplicate characters, or that you need 2 DPS, 2 support, etc on a team.

It simply makes for more balanced play.

you do know you need a minimum of four squads so are we demanding that everyone have three of the same infantry squads (Sniper) otherwise after loosing the first squad you arrive at the same problem of having too many or too few of each type of squad.

Not quite, I see where he’s going, you’ll state youre most preferred or strongest role and we’ll then create balanced teams.
I’d choose sniper and kick their ass out of my damn game.

This is far from “easy” to implement… Regardless of it’s actual usefulness or not.

Why would it not be easy to implement? You’d literally ask a preference and group teams together based on a limit of say, no more than three of any type except assault/DPS.

I’m not even talking forcing people into the roles like MMOs or Overwatch, etc - just a preferred role. MAYBE it would work, but literally ANYTHING would be better than what it is now.

Re-read what Kriegherfaust said…

It’s also far from easy from a programming perspective, too

A truly skilled and tactical player in Enlisted brings a range of different squads into battle and has no real “preference”, instead adapting dynamically to the situation.

Restricting these key players would make games play worse, not better. While the monkeys will always be just monkeys regardless of any restrictions, anyway.

Of course they do. But they also have a preference. EVERY player has a preference. And I don’t know how many times at the end of matches, I see snipers sniping and they are no where near the cap point as we lose. Ditto with people in tanks. I’ve seen people stay in their tank even if, all they did was get out and cap, and the other side would win.

I’m asking for a mere shadow of what other games do already b/c it’s common sense. A shadow b/c it’s simple ASKING for a preference.

Heck, if the Devs perfect AI so they know the human players for the match are going to do X and Y, then they could send in Bots that do Z instead.

I don’t think this would work.

If you do it by class: some people play classes differently

If you do it by preferred engagement range, if its manually selectable, what stops you from selecting CQB to get better match queue times but sit in the back sniping the whole match.

If you made it Infantry, Tank, and Plane. You would almost have to make the vehicles premium only as they are the only ones that can “cycle” them.

The issue with implementing in Enlisted, is the roles aren’t so cut and dry. A sniper can be used at close range, an smg at long range.

Thanks for the feedback - at least you gave a fair explanation. I don’t wholeheartedly agree, but I agree -it would be easy to manipulate it, though, I honestly don’t know what the benefit would be - unless, say, there were a plethora of snipers out there, and the queue times started to increase (or something along those lines).

But, for me, when I first started, I absolutely wanted to snipe to start getting a feel for the game. And there are a lot other PVE games that encourage sniping and it’s easy to get pretty good at.

And, if you made it infantry/tank/plane - I don’t know that you’d HAVE to make them premium. I mean, I have played for a month now, and have tried the plane perhaps 3 times, and even practiced a bit in a scenario, but I’m no where near where I’d actually take a tank slot.

And, who knows, perhaps some finagling of the idea would work, like put your choices in 1, 2, 3 - e…g for me, it’s primary assault at this time, with some support engineering, and then I’ll pull out a tank, particularly on my American side, since I bought one that’s fairly competitive against what the Germans and certainly the Japanese have at BRII.

So, I’d prefer tank as a secondary role. And if someone is a tank pro and wants to play tanks all the time - hey, more power to him/her and this would allow it.

Anyway, maybe it’s something they could implement like they currently have the checkbox to “enter any match as any side” etc - this way, if you wanted to play a role, you play in matches that accommodate that. (Just spit-balling here, hope that makes sense.)
