Dynamic Maps

I know this is not something that you can do short term but It’s something I would like to see you look into for the future.

I would like to see more dynamic maps rather than static. I get tired of everyone learning the best approaches to the static maps …

care to elaborate on that? What exactly do you mean by “dynamic” and “static”.

Currently the maps we have today are static in that they are handcrafted and never change. Dynamic Maps reuse the same objects but rearrange them dynamically to create a different map. Different avenues of approach, buildings, trenches, bunkers and objectives in different locations.

Of course the difficult part of dynamic maps is that they are created on the fly by the server. And much like soldier AI, the computer code would need to know how to place all those objects in some kind of intelligent way.

So to do it right the AI code would be much more complex but if done correctly then virtually every battle you would be faced with a new map and a new challenge.

Thats why I say this would be something to look at for the future …

Instead of going full dynamic (like I assume your inspiration taken from 6 Days in Fallujah) why not just switch up the control points like they have a couple different Omaha maps?

I would think the bocage terrain in Normandy would lend itself quite well to a dynamic map.

Honestly anything to shake things up a bit … I understand that making a totally dynamic map would be a pretty tall order

I feel like just randomizing objectives would work but I’m kinda scared of randomizing the map as a whole. I’d rather one polished map then 20 improvised.

Not to mention it would be much easier

agreed it can be a mess if not done correctly … The dynamic maps would definitely not have the level of detail that a hand crafted static map would have …

And it would give the sweat lords something else to blame their loss on.

I would like to see them give it a try but it may no even be feasible with the engine they are using … maybe at their next Q/A I can ask that question …

There’s a R6/CS-esque game called Due Process that handles this in a really good way. They use procgen to create a batch of levels and then have their level designer go in and pick which ones are good layouts and polish those up. Doing this they’re able to rotate in 20 new maps every week and avoid situations like in Dead By Daylight where the procgen serves up an absolute shit map for one of the sides.

I feel like conquest is pretty lame and should be eliminated all together. You capture a house 10 times, and then there’s the guy that sits in the attic. Invasion and the other mode is more reasonable. It actually makes sense, because your defending or attacking.
