A New Tactical Layer
I’d like to propose a fundamental shift in how we interact with the environment in Enlisted: Full Building Destruction.
While I understand the current “indestructible” buildings are meant to provide cover, I believe that allowing them to be leveled would actually create a more authentic and tactical WWII experience. Here is why:
-
Historical Realism: In battles like Stalingrad or Berlin, buildings didn’t stay intact for long. The battlefield should evolve from a clean city into a “lunar landscape” of ruins and craters as the match progresses.
-
The “Ground Over Buildings” Meta: As we discussed in the community, earth and trenches are often more resilient than brick walls. If a building collapses, it shouldn’t just disappear; it should leave a pile of rubble and a basement. This would force players to rely on Engineers to dig deep trenches and tunnels to move safely between capture points.
-
Engineers as the Core Class: Total destruction would make Engineers vital. They wouldn’t just build rallies; they would be responsible for “fortifying the ruins,” digging defensive lines, and creating underground passages once the surface cover is gone.
-
Anti-Camping Mechanic: High-rise sniper nests and MG-42 nests wouldn’t be invincible anymore. A well-placed 75mm or 88mm shell should be able to bring the ceiling down on them, forcing teams to constantly reposition.
The Vision: Imagine the last 5 minutes of a match where the town is gone, and the fight is happening entirely within a network of player-dug trenches and craters among the debris. It would be much more visceral and atmospheric.
What do you think? Would you prefer a “trench and ruin” endgame over the current static buildings?
- Yes, it would be much more realistic and tactical.
- Yes, but only with better tools for Engineers to dig and fortify
- Only partial destruction (modular) to keep some cover for infantry
- No, it would make tanks and planes too powerful
