Do you think the 122mm gun of the IS-2, a top-of-the-line Soviet tank, is powerful?

As a player who has completed all content, I can’t help but complain about the current state of Soviet top-tier tanks. The IS-2’s 122mm gun has a large caliber, but its HE shells perform absurdly poorly in actual combat—ricochets are way too frequent, and the reload time is excruciatingly long—almost two to three times slower than the Tiger II’s 88mm.
The Tiger II can easily penetrate the IS-2’s upper front plate, lower glacis, and even the gun mantlet even when firing second, while trying to pierce the Tiger II’s mantlet with the IS-2 feels almost as impossible as trying to move your mouse exactly 1mm…

On paper the stats look strong, but how does it actually play out? Teammates quit instantly, bots fill the match, flanks collapse—the battle outcome doesn’t lie. The Tiger II is basically using alien technology in-game—overpowered in mobility, firepower, and protection, completely free from its historical weaknesses.
Even the US has the M26 and Super Pershing now, yet the Soviets still haven’t received any truly competitive new vehicles or mechanic optimizations. HE desperately needs an overpressure mechanic, or just give us a tank that can actually penetrate the Tiger II, with reload and firepower comparable to the 88! (T-44/85 when?)

Too bad your pre merge teammates are in their handed out t-34-85

I guess main problem of IS-2 it’s buggy game where your HE can just dissappear, your AP for no reason just non-pen and etc.

So on paper IS-2 is pretty fine… game isn’t fine. (So in reality of current game long reload is a curse)

It’s funny that the Soviets’ most relevant tank for fighting Tiger II H is the T34 100, which was distributed in the old event, but the entire RU forum believes that the t44 100 will be a more honest tank to counter Tiger II H, and if the developers listened, it makes sense to wait for this tank.

At this point, even German mains support adding a tank with 100mm gun for Soviets like IS-100 or T-44-100.
I think this speaks volumes how slow and lazy Enlisted devs are.

Are you all still waiting for something? I wasn’t playing game for year or maybe even two now and nothing changed for this time.(At best few new weapons and vehicles and one or two new maps… Well, maybe I just greedy, butit’s much less than in 2021-2022(Of course backthen they just finished whole stuff which was made since 2016, but still))
Though my predictions was right that’s it’s gonna be just slowly going down.

And bunch of strange decisions like with gold orders and merger of everything with everything(I read somewhere that’s they add Moscow for high br map rotation?).

But problems like this with IS-2 is still god damn it actual.

Per shell the tank obliterates. The HE is extremely powerful. It has lowest pen put of all high tier tanks (205mm) so ricochets are more likely. The main issue about it is the reload. But even with longer reload the 122mm shell covers 3x the area as the KT HE while dealing more damage overall - it’s just that it’s concentrated

It’s reload speed and bad pen make it not that great, one ricochet or miss and you are dead.

Enlisted never promotes long reload as HE are ultra nerfed you would get much more kills with faster spamming smaller shells than one that is larger and shoot less often.

I would rather use T-34-100 and risk getting 1hk from anything than IS-2. We need 100m tank with better armor like IS-2-100 or T-44-100

Not only HE shells are nerfed but they are also buggy.
HE shells ricochets off the ground or often does not do damage when they explode.
This is why I stopped using IS-2, because I get trolled by the game and my shells do nothing and though all tanks are effected, its most annoying with slow reloading tanks because IS-2 is a sitting duck while reloading.

Really? I’m still unfamiliar with the Russian language forum. The atmosphere there seems rather gloomy. Compared to the English section, most people in the Russian section consider Russian merely a formality. No one listens to them. The Soviet tanks haven’t been produced for a long time. I think the main reason is that once the top Soviet tanks appeared, they would surely threaten the position of the Tiger II, because the days when the Tiger II could easily penetrate Soviet tanks would be gone forever, and a new milestone would be ushered in. It feels as if Germany were the true homeland of the DF. Although it’s unfair, the reality is indeed like this. The Soviet Union is like China in War Thunder.

The IS-2 Model 1943 in War Thunder initially had a battle rating of 5.7. While its 122mm gun boasts high firepower, it also has obvious weaknesses. Although it was later moved to 6.0, its performance remained somewhat acceptable. However, after being given the D shell specifically to counter the Ferdinand, the IS-2 Model 1944 was pushed to 6.7—how unfair is that? Not to mention that this shell was never historically provided to this tank, nor did it ever face such an enemy in reality. The entire situation feels utterly absurd. It’s as if top-tier Soviet vehicles are so overpowered that, as some German players claim, they could defeat a King Tiger with nothing but infantry wearing plate armor.

To be honest, the high-explosive shells of modern tanks are like weakened rifle grenades. Their damage is compensated for by the shooting frequency. But for those with large calibers, it’s like the current rifle grenades, already weakened. Even the 150mm gun of the German 2nd Assault Gun can achieve a loading speed of 6 seconds. And the Soviet Union’s later models could even blow up houses. Large-caliber grenades became useless junk in such an abnormal environment.

Have they added a new 50% reload speed perk now or are you just lieing because it would justify your victim complex?
