DF should at least take premium squads seriously and avoid abusing scarcity marketing or copy-paste practices

The update hasn’t been released yet, so I need to speak up quickly. Even the pre-order squads in the new version feel increasingly half-hearted.

Take the captured Browning machine gun squad—it’s literally just a Level 3 machine gun squad with the weapon swapped out. The suppressed PPS squad? It looks like a Soviet assault squad with Chinese-character faces and armbands slapped on.

What’s going on? It’s not like we haven’t seen captured weapons or Chinese-themed squads before. Remember the Sichuan Thompson squad? From voice lines to uniforms, it was meticulously crafted and absolutely awesome. So why does this Soviet-turned-Chinese squad feel so lazy now?

Looking back at the past—after the merge, tons of premium squads were removed and hidden away indefinitely. Even some early-game fun squads were tucked out of sight. Think about the German and U.S. advanced medic squads, the Soviet Lewis gun squad, the Polish Browning squad, the LVT, the U.S. P-40, the M2 Hyde, the MP28 Military Police, the PPK-41, the MP-41, that unnamed German BR1 SMG… When I think about it, way too many have been taken down. Even many basic squads were removed, making the in-game premium squad store seriously unbalanced.

I’ve almost bought all the strong squads currently available, and now I’m left guessing when the MG-30 or other removed squads will return.

Back in the day, the store felt lively—every squad had its own charm, clearly priced either as fun toys or strong options. The 88mm flak cannon carrier and the KV-2 were basically fun novelty vehicles, but they were placed at BR4. It took forever for them to be adjusted and finally dropped to BR3, but by then, the hype had long faded—no one saw them as must-buy items anymore.

The 88mm carrier’s mobility and model issues are even more glaring in Enlisted—where space is tight compared to War Thunder. DF didn’t optimize it; they just copied it over. That vehicle performs worse than the “Big Max”—at least that one doesn’t spaz out and get stuck on trees. It could’ve been a fun wildcard, but it ended up forgotten.

When the Marine Corps squads were briefly re-released, the LVT—a Rank I tank—still carried its pre-merge premium price, high enough to buy two other new premium squads. And the ironic part? Right after people stopped buying it, it got buffed with two extra crew members. Sure, it’s still underwhelming in strength, but at least it’s somewhat usable now. How long ago was that suggestion made? Why buff it only after removal? The same goes for some premium weapons—only adjusted in updates after being pulled from the store. What’s the deal? Mass-producing “regret pills” to mess with us? Playing with our heads so we buy underperforming squads, just to gamble on whether you’ll quietly buff them later?

And now, new premium squads have neither strength nor consistent fun—just a grind where you might enjoy one out of three matches. What are you even doing? Premium squads should either help you earn more, offer unique fun, or straight-up be stronger. What’s your design philosophy now? One moment you’re capable of crafting gems like the Chinese Thompson squad; the next, you’re lazily swapping skins. Are we paying for pre-orders just to gamble on whether you’ll half-a*s the execution?

What makes me especially angry is the Soviet M3 Lee. I waited for over a year and a half for it to appear in a newcomer bundle—it never did. Eventually, I couldn’t wait any longer and bought it at full price when it returned.

Then, not long after, you included it in a refreshed newcomer bundle. I was furious. I waited all that time, ended up paying full price, and then got backstabbed.

Something like that, at BR2, should’ve been offered at a discount from the start.

An M3A1 returns for 600 gold, but an LVT comes back at 4,000 gold? How do you even price these? Filtering for the most loyal players? Treating players’ money like it grows on trees? Or is it “buyer beware—if you don’t want it, don’t complain”?

If in-game pricing were legally recognized as having real monetary value, selling the G43 (burst version) and then nerfing it afterward could almost be considered causing financial loss.

Pay attention to the design of premium squads. Players who purchase them have the right to expect quality.

Permanently bring back some non-OP but fundamentally valuable premium squads, just like Japan does. Do not abuse scarcity marketing.

Weapon prices from before the merge should be adjusted according to their current tiers.

I would agree with better quality, however I have always maintained that squads people pay for should come with unlocked weapons so we can use them in any BR level we choose. I personally don’t care if they are unique as they are worth nothing outside this game, I buy them simply to better my squad lineup.

Yeah, I wish for that too—I also want a fun or strong squad, like the Overseer or Magach 13. But the problem is, the recent squads haven’t sold very well, and they just quietly leave the scene. I mean, DF has already started selling squads—they should have made it pay-to-win instead of turning it into something no one wants to use. Sigh. The pace of new golden squads being released isn’t fast, but the number being taken off the shelves is huge. It’s really frustrating. Steve Jobs dared to use scarcity marketing because he was Apple. In this game, the proportion of high-tier squads being removed is staggering. Just look at the game’s older sibling, War Thunder—the number of golden packs or time-limited returning aircraft taken down isn’t even half of the total golden lineup. Whether strong or weak, they’re treated the same—all removed, then brought back at full price to milk players’ wallets. So annoying. The scene of BR1 being sold for 4,000 gold is still fresh in my mind.

Well, donations in this game are what killed it. It won’t kill, but it has already killed.

The game is a blatant pay-to-win. But most squads are a scam-to-lose.

? What the Big majority of squads (premium) are rubbish and the ones that are worth are pretty much meh it doesnt changes the fact that 9 man squads with AVT-40 20, FG42 II, THA and T20 are way better.

The stuff i hate with premiums is locking Unique mechanics like the rockets artillery behind paywalls but if something can be done is adding a event squad like they did on that case so no complains

Now with for example stuff like AG-2 You must pay for it and theres no chance to get via grind and event which is cleary worse to force ppl to Buy smt

If i we’re the monetization guy i would not look Unique mechanics via paywalls i would give the option to the players to grind for a free squad with the feature but having the possibility to pay lets Say 30 bucks for skipping the progress or have double squad if You get the event stuff aswell

yeah… when i saw the new pack didn’t call my attention, especially the weapons. the BAR was… ok (I would have preferred a different weapon) but the ppsh S… naaa i don’t want that. maybe some leaves it would help to not look too simple

If Gaijin sold every squad with interchangeable weapons, they would sell a lot more squads. I have bought quite a few squads and passed on many others. Most of the time I passed was because I either did not like the weapons it came with, or I already had too many squad I don’t use at the same BR level as the squad for sale. Make weapons changeable, then I could buy it for any BR level, which should make the squad far more appealing to every potential buyer.

IMOP, Gaijin might be making decent profits, but they are losing a lot of potential profits by how they package their premium and event squads. They could also be making a fortune by selling the old legacy squads, however, I don’t see a lot of common sense from their decision makers.
