Defend that LINE!

wouldn’t it be great if we could drag a line on ground and select the defending direction so the soldiers would nicely line up in a defensive line, one great example is spreading them in a trench so they all dont gather on 1 point and some not being in a trench and ending up killed.

Yes, I would like to see such a feature.
I realize that this game is still in open beta, but the AI-BOT seems incomplete.
Your suggestion is really attractive and a feature I would like to see implemented. More to the point, I would like to see this game be like ArmA or OperationFlashpoint where you can command the BOT.
I would like to be able to prohibit shooting and move in stealth mode, order them to stay low, change formation, make them look in a certain direction, or keep them at a specified spot no matter how far away they are.

Honestly a option to order your squad to change poses from Free (they can chnage poses at any time at will) to standing, to crouch and to prone. That would really help with trying to flank or crawl towards a objective point

If it means my ai doesn’t randomly climb out of a trench I tell them to sit in, I am all for this.

This and so much more. I wish there was a more comprehensive set of orders you could give to your AI soldiers to follow. It would create a whole other style of gameplay for those players who want to play more of a commander role, having their AI do the heavy lifting or being the tip of the spear in an engagement rather than the player themselves. Such as telling your machine gunner to mount a sandbag emplacement and defend. Or telling your riflemen to look in a certain cone and engage all targets in that cone. Or having your AI arm a bomb while you cover them…so on.

Of course, this involves having an AI that has a functioning “I”. Right now, they do not.

It wouldn’t. No reason to micromanage that which is worthless and costs nothing. Yes, AI is abysmal, but it won’t be saved by a small easy change / addition. It needs to be overhauled or removed. Unfortunately, that’s not how business is done apparently.

Well it’s already possible. Just give them indiviudal orders. Do it myself sometimes.
Could maybe be done easier.

it would be great and there is a big reason to micromanage troops, if for any second they climb out of their trench, their position, or they randomly deceide to climb over a wall, they’re dead, especially if its a troop class that ill need for a while, like engineer or radio operator.

it gets tiring when your AI dies the dumbest way possible for the 4237408623805263806th time

well i thought of something way simpler, so in a rush of battle you wont have to take your time to assign where the troops should be at.
instead you can hold 1 button then press X as the first point for the first soldier, then you drag the line and press x at the next point for the next soldier and so on until every soldier is assigned.
you can of course cancel setting the positions by pressing a different button, this of course wont cancel the pre-existing assignment you’ve set to where the soldiers would stand.
this function is to ensure that a player isnt forced to assign every position for every soldier if he doesnt want to, so he can set 2 or more points for lets say a entire 9 man rifleman squad.
and to cancel orders its as same as before, just hold X
