Crates, boxes and any sort of squareish container were always lethal to begin with. Always.

Yes, that’s the completely moronic way they implemented the crate’s damage model - it deals damage when you touch its bottom half even 1-2 seconds after it drops on the ground.
Btw., if your soldier is close to the crate while still in the air, you can use it as well:)
