I’m sorry this mechanic just flat out sucks and it all boils down to airplane damage. You cannot as a fighter do any amount of good damage to any of the bombers to reliably shoot down/or hamper an enemy bombing run. Throw in the fact that one pass into bomber formation will heavily damage your plane. FIX THE AIRPLANE DAMAGE MODEL. Alot of us have been telling you month after month, but your not listening. If i take the time to aim for engines or critical components of airframes, planes should go down. Not just soak up 20mm like a wet sponge.
I directly crashed my plane into one of the bombers.
And my plane bounced away…
Currently you can only do one pass from the front and try to shoot down at least one bomber, then if you want to keep flying leave them alone or you will be obliterated.
And this, ladies and gentlemen is the reason why almost no one uses fighters.
It is essentially a waste of time since you can barely shoot down one plane (and even for that you will often have to reload, even twice, before he finaly crashes to the ground), not to mention that your reward for going through all that is abysmal.
Unless this damage model is fixed, there really is no point in trying to counter enemy bombers.
Please buff the fighters, and give 1000 xp for each plane shot down. Do this and people will start using fighters overnight.
First thing they need to do is fix the damage models.
They can’t just copy the damage model from WT?
Yeah I tried yesterday as well in the Bf109 E-7/U2, I flew through the formation MG screen and took some hits, but I focussed my 20mm burst on just one wing of one of the Soviet bombers, but I was defeated by the stalinium tarpaulin and heroic wooden frames of the ancient mother Russia. I got pretty messed up on the pass an had to limp for another couple of bomb runs before my plane finally ran out of fuel. The bombers were just not designed to be shot down I don’t think.
Having said that the damage models of most of the planes across the campaigns are still wonky and absorb way too many rounds. There is a forced advantage to the turn fighters because the energy retention model is also heavily borked… There are some planes like the IL-2 that fly below stall speed and just hang in the air forever before gravity finally kicks in and gets them moving. Weird.
something i noticed is that if your radio guys dies then the bombers have tendency to not drop their bombs…or it could be a glitch
one of them took 2 flak clips, i agree to nerf the survivability a bit, but i dont want them to be WT paper planes either
