A 100 round machine gun that one-shots without exception…? I don’t know. LOL
I wouldn’t mind having a one hit kill mechanic making all bullets from all guns (except pistol rounds) equally lethal. It would open up our huge library of firearms and encourage diversity on a whole new level. There wouldn’t really be a defined “meta” and players would get to experience a new found freedom with offering new reasons to carry different guns as high ROF smgs are currently the go to, to stand a chance.
It would also impact the flow of battle, slowing things down quite a bit. I often find myself thinking “i really want to use this squad/gun right now”, or wanting to fly a plane, wanting to roleplay as a sniper, or just wanting to take things slow to get a more immersive feeling of battle. Instead I’m often forced to play a specific way to either stand a chance at winning or to just not have the game end in 5 minutes. The game is no fun when you constantly loose to steamrolls with the matches lasting only a few minutes. It feels more like a complete waste of time when that happens over and over which is why I’ve always supported the idea of lobby balancing, but i think this type of mechanic could also achieve a similar result.
I’m definitely open to and would like to atleast have a seperate game mode (not custom games) that offers this type of experience with other game mechanics making it more realistic/“hardcore”. I think being able to choose one game mode or the other is a better idea than just having the entire game set up the one way because both have their ups and downs and both can get tiresome.
You know, I want to try a “Enlisted Realistic mode”, just to see how it would be.
And probably many other features as well! Actually, comment if you can think of more features, lets build on this idea.
Anyway, it would be very interesting to see how the Enlisted system would handle combat on the scale of ARMA, where you have MG positions and tanks firing over kilometers, and SMGs not being peashooters past 50 meters. The biggest issue I see is AI basicly no longer being functional due to the massively increased range of many firefights (though, objectives would still be in their normal spots, forcing close contact engagements to take the points).
But, as someone who enjoys how combat feels in ARMA, I would like to still see how it would function actually.
This is also true for Enlisted though there is more artifical balancing involved.
Well… not really, or at least with a lot of inconsistencies.
Just check 7.92mm Mauser for instance :
Many Kar98k have different damage values. Some like “standard” Kar98k, kreigsmodel and pre war have 25.4 damage. However, sniper variants and grenade launcher variants only have 24.2 for no apparent reason and Vz24 has 27.3. This is particularly weird given that other bolt action of the same “families” usually share the same damage (mosin rifle at 23.7, mosin carbines at 20.5 and so on)
Semi auto damage are also inconsistant : G41 has 14.4. G43, FG42 have 15.3 and ZH has 15.8
Lol, i literally just had this discussion with him on a different thread supplying more than enough evidence proving damage is directly linked to weapon class. Caliber is more of a modifier, but even then it seems very loose. Dude is a bit dense i guess. Had to laugh out loud seeing someone else tell him the exact same thing.
Damage is a highly debatable topic anyways.
Also, we are talking about WW2 here - its not like soldiers had access to special ammo.
Yes there are exceptions like the famous “war crime explosive bullets” both Soviet and German snipers used here and then, or AP rifle rounds that however usually were used by vehicles… regular infantry used just standard issue rounds.
Hollowpoint, match ammo, AP ammo - those varieties fit modern shooters, but WW2?
Also not to mention this would make the game unnecessarily complicated, just look at Escape from Tarkov - 10 types of rounds per caliber, but in the end everyone is simply using the one meta bullet for everything.
Man’s just described Red Orchestra.-
Not sure if you have played that but I recommend it. The second one has a campaign mode too. It’s so detailed that you have to manually adjust your sights, iron or telescopic for the ranges you’re trying to shoot at. Lots of recoil, very detailed tanking, etc.
