Haven’t done this in a while but, what’s your favorite Water plane of WW2? Mine is the BV-138 C-1… hope WT devs buff it soon.
Do carrier based planes count? The carrier is on water… eheheh
Sure, why not?
The Zero. It gained a mythical status as one of the (if not the) most fearsome carrier based plane of it’s time.
Fairey Fulmar, an overweight Hurricane that got the job done when Britain needed it the most. Like 90% of what Britain made during the war it far from great but still somehow managed to do its job well enough. Designed as a two seat fighter (again, one of Britain numerous oddities) it managed to (mostly) protect the British ships in the Mediterranean sea during the early war.
Its later brother, the Fairey Firefly had great success as a fighter bomber and U-boot hunter.
Consolidated pby catalina
I mean I wanna say Sunderland, but thats not true, Im a basic bitch, pure PBY Catalina all the way. Its jsut way too cool and iconic to say otherwise.
idk, All I think about when I think of the zero, is wildcats eating them raw. Saying that, as much as I love the wildcat, the zero does win in style points.
But if you want a floatplane version, you do have this, based on the Zero, the A6M2 mod11 if I recall.
If it was Floatplane only I would have said Sunderland. This thing is so big and had such an impact on the Battle of the Atlantic.
oh 100%, the Sunderland is awesome in many ways, and its a very close second for me, but just the shit the Catalina got up to on the regular in the pacific especially is what wins it for me.
Short Sunderland
The most widely used flying boat of WW2 (750 made), this thing helped win the Battle of the Atlantic.
Damn, I wasn’t first.
What thats not the same they are different
If its ship carrier then Mitsubishi A7M Reppū
if its submarine carrier Aichi M6A Seiran
And if its float plane Curtiss sc seahawk
I like the gunboats
Love it to bits, but there were about 3300 PBY’s and over 1300 PBM’s made … so maybe “most widely used BRITISH flying boat”…
My bad, thought I wrote that down.
Happy little accidents, now I get to write about it more.
I dont like amphibious aircraft or carrier based aircraft so I picked: bf-109 T, aircraft carrier variant of the famous bf-109 Emil. This way its technically a “water plane” though its actually a badass fighter aircraft.
I wonder why they didn’t mark it as a Air craft carrier vehicle like many Japanese ones and American ones.
probably because Graf Zeppelin (Germany´s only carrier) was never fully finished so the carrier planes were never used in the role in the first place. Besides Germany didnt have that many carriers to adopt a serious designation.
Yeah, also I did do another daily question but the mods took it down.
