Dagor Sandbox

Introducing:

Dagor Sandbox had been something I really wanted to do for more than a year now. Frustrated by the speed of development for the modding aspect of Enlisted, I desired an independent, open source solution that can progress in my pace.

With the advancement of AI, and other tools, this had become a possible endeavour. The current state of the program/game was achieved in 2 weeks. I have to say it’s nowhere near ready, but some aspect of the game/tool is in a releasable state.

The project uses Dagor Engine Source and Enlisted script source code wherever possible, so it actually plays quite similarly to Enlisted. The game mounts Enlisted as external data, and isn’t included with sandbox

Key Features

1. Collaborative Level and Mission Design

How cool would it be if you could make maps together with your friends? Someone places buildings, someone else makes interior, and a third friend the mission logic?
Or just leave feedback on a mission to a modder in real time!

This will all be possible with Dagor Sandbox!

2. Sandbox Lab

Another great hurdle during a mod’s development is editing custom profiles manually with text editor. Yikes. Not anymore!

The character and vehicle viewer - I decided to call it Sandbox Lab, allows you to do the following:

  • Inspect most Infantry clothing and equipment on the soldier.
  • Equip any weapon and inspect it’s reload animations.

3. Custom Profile Workshop:

The Custom Profile editor allows you to load the profile and edit every important aspect of it.

Clothing can be configured from an interactive library. Creating outfits has never been this easy!

4. Offline Play

Offline play is very similar to playing offline in editor. Major improvement is the mission selector and the ability to create scenes from them which saves a couple clicks. It is also the primary way to enter editor, which has several bugs fixed unlike Enlisted, including entity duplication bug and RI list was updated.

Game with bots is very unfinished, and it will stay that way for a long time

FAQ:

++ Can I use my in-game profile in Sandbox?
– Not directly. Enlisted doesn’t allow exporting profile data, however, you can recreate your armies in the profile editor. It may take a while though…

++ Can I play it on console?
– No, and probably never.

++ What is the player limit for online matches?
– There isn’t one. Netcode is quite primitive at the moment, so I would say, the functional limit isn’t very high.

++ Is replacing Enlisted a goal in any way?
– No. Goal of this project is to make things possible that are not in Enlisted. Playing with 3rd party content with friends and modding tools.

++ Where can I get updated on the project?
– Enlisted Modding Discord has a dagor-sandbox channel where you can leave feedback and follow updates.

++ Will it be open source?
– For now, no. Future will decide whether this will change.

War Thunder may be impossible to integrate, Active Matter is within reach. First and foremost, everything that Enlisted has to work first.

Downloads are not available at the moment. The first version will only include Sandbox Lab, other features will be disabled. I really want to release the full thing this year.

Sandbox Lab is planned to be released this week
