D-Day Rework

With all these new vehicles being added bike jeeps apcs the old d day shows just how poorly built for the nature of the game the map really is

the first point is fine for attackers as you have the whole beach to work with plenty of sand berms wrecks and such but the second you start on the hill all it takes is one tank dying in the road on either side and armor is now borderline useless and with all these light vehicles littering the road it just gets worse

defenders also lack good ways to fight with tanks that isn’t just camping the grey zone
other posters highlighted that d day is also supposed to be cloudy and darker while in game its bright and sunny

i suggest either just removing d day and letting omha or sword take its place or a rework make it a new unique type of mission instead of fighting inland destroying the bunkers along the beach
these objectives could swap to the simple destruction mode or the 2 point capture mode but the main idea is stay on the beaches where both sides have better use of vehicles

other minor changes i would do is make the mg nests in the bunkers repairable as well as making the hole in the side a destroyable object with it being either a side objective like barrage balloons or a dynamic destroyable

I’ve long wanted to rant about the Normandy map.

Back when I watched Call of Duty 6, the sequence where attackers blow through the first earthen berm, then clear out bunker clusters one by one, using flamethrowers to flush out tunnels, I thought Normandy-style beach assaults against bunkers looked absolutely thrilling.

But when I played Enlisted’s Normandy, the bunkers felt heavily scaled down, and even the fortifications were cut short. There are barely any bunkers set up for crossfire. What we get is just urban capture points reskinned to look like bunkers for us to seize one after another.

I have to ask: in real life, where on Normandy would you find this much grass and trees blocking the defenders’ own line of sight? Where are the hidden coastal guns, machine gun emplacements, cover and underground passages that should be part of this map?

It’s interesting how whenever new gear, prototype vehicles or tech tree changes are added for different nations, plenty of people will speak up and argue for historical accuracy and authenticity. Yet when it comes to these historically inaccurate maps, nobody says a word.

I suspect their comfort zone has been poked.
Other games handle this properly, but Enlisted suffers badly here. It markets itself as aiming for realism, yet its map recreation is worse than many older WWII games. Heavy firepower is missing; coastal guns are just background props. The fortifications are barely more than simple terrain features. Trees on hills even block the vision of tanks positioned up there. The whole map feels like a single slice of cake, placed alone on an empty field.

I’ve looked up real references for Omaha Beach. Even after decades of neglect, the vegetation there never grew as thick as what we see in-game. The game artificially shrinks the engagement range between tanks and infantry.

Other WWII games don’t have this flaw, so why does Enlisted? Are many of our players refugees who couldn’t stand being pinned by bunker machine guns or picked off by tanks at long range? Can’t handle a little open ground — is it all too much for them?

Beach landings naturally have high casualty rates. If balance is the concern, there is a simple fix: raise the number of reinforcements after capturing objectives, and adjust the starting troop count from the beginning.

In-game, attacking these defensive maps mostly relies on air strikes and artillery barrages, or simply overwhelming the defenders by throwing troops at them.

If Omaha Beach had defenses like what we see in this game back then, I don’t think such massive casualties would have been necessary.

A few incendiary bombs dropped from aircraft plus sustained shelling would be enough to pin down the defenders.
