After coming back from a long break, I’ve noticed that the devs have widened some additional maps—making flanking easier and more enjoyable—as well as creating more space behind the enemy (less gray zone). I give DF a lot of grief regarding some of their more questionable decisions; however, I have to give them credit for improving the maps in the manner mentioned above. Hopefully they’ll continue this practice with additional maps.
IDEA: To lessen the impact from closing down gray zones when the battle moves forward, how about testing a new mechanic? Leave the old battle area active while simultaneously activating the New Battle area; in other words, have 2 active battle zones at the same time—instead of just one. Flanking behind the enemy can eat up a lot of time. When you finally develop a good position, sometimes the zone closes way too quickly. Then you have to rush back in the other direction—sometimes not making it. This can be extremely annoying. Could you test leaving two battle zones open simultaneously? See how people like it. If they do, expand the practice to additional maps. If they don’t like it, then don’t implement it. No harm, no foul. But it could make the game a lot more enjoyable for everyone.
