This Game does have the map size. The idea I was thinking about would be that there are a certain amount of different objectives on the map that would interchange like: Destroy a building or an objective, capture a zone/defend a zone, and move supplies to another location/protect convoy. Players could move around on vehicles and whatnot and the mode would offer (somewhat) tactical gameplay rewarding teamplay where you can stage ambushes and all-out assaults. This could be wishful thinking but I don’t see why this wouldn’t be a good mode, but I’m sure someone would inform me on something I was overlooking.
Exactly; make an event where the entire campaign map is open
Modded Arma is the place for that kind of gameplay. It can be interesting but 8 out of 10 it will be slow and boring for most people.
The issue with large maps is ability to overflank an enemy and come from behind. Unless created artificially, you won’t get any sort of front line and it will just disperse players all around the map.
The other issue of large maps without semi-clear front line is that solo players have a huge advantage as they don’t need any teamwork and any moving object is most likely an enemy so it’s much easier to spot while remaining hidden.
You can try Planeside 2. It has really large maps and massive amount of players on them, you can kind of do what you are proposing and it’s more dynamic than Arma.
interesting very good idea, the problem would be the most novice players, since they will stay hidden in a corner of the map without fulfilling objectives, but I think that the solution would be that this “open world” game mode is unlocked from the level 10, I think it would be the most successful
try cuisine royale lol, same game just different mode
however, long-lasting match like war thunder plane/naval SB also good
If it was implemented similarly to War Thunder’s Enduring Confrontation I think that’d be pretty epic!
I was going to suggest something similar but I like this. I personally like the idea of using a sniper squad, finding a nice cozy ambush spot, such as a tall building or dugout, and yeet enemies from far range. Or maybe setting up ambushes near objectives with extra building resources, that sort of thing.
Planetside2 WW2?
Good.
The game could prevent that by enforcing “gray zones” behind the current front lines, although this would limit strategic possibilities.
Think of the mode as an oversized conquest match, but with assault-type restrictions, meaning that even if all caps can be taken back after being lost, the active frontline is enforced by dynamic gray zones, so that only so many contested objectives are active at any time, and a single player can’t just sneak in and solo cap a point 1 km deep into enemy territory.
In a practical example, if the main battle is being fought across Le Bre and Colleville Farm, you can’t just ignore it and run all the way down to D-Day beach; you have to secure at least the mill and the house atop the hills first.
Every time a point is taken, further ones become accessible, and so on.
Judging by how it works now, we will have a grey zone, 10-20 m of no man’s land, grayzone.
I edited my post for clarity.
What I have in mind is a grey zone that leaves you room for flanking, but still prevents you from ignoring a contested objective altogether and running around behind enemy lines capping/decapping solo.
