German commanders respected the French SS for their effectivity as well, its a different question how the French feel about it today.
And also there was a special infantry cossack unit. So its not nessesary to bring horses as well. Sadly

thats the most thing that can be say - a panters and tigers in stalingrad. And thats all. BTW they make a great snow winter Stalingrad map. Its huge and have a lot hictorical building as well as Pavlovs house which was in fight more then entire France ))

matter of fact, pavlov house wasn’t that important to the germans, but the house did changed hands several times, trying to hold as much as ground as possible to either side.
proved to be a good boosting morale for the soviets though, can’t deny that.
