Since certain axis units have had their unit insignia, descriptions and uniforms altered due to their controversial status is there any chance the community is given the option to correct these historical alterations via mods which would be visible only to the player who is using it like in War Thunder with the custom skins?
Or, a in-game option on nazi swasticas. Either filter it with common axis stuff or enable it if the country we currenty playing on alow it.
But laws and licences are a pain in the ass.
Just saw the series “man in the high castle” where the swasticas and nazi salutes where present every second, or games like cod waw had swasticas all over the place… I can’t understand why others go for the axis simbol rather than the nazi one.
its a Russian game, and Nazi symbology is outlawed. They may not even create filters for those countries which do not have these these restrictions. If the developer was based in a country which allowed the use of said symbology in context then maybe a filter could be released.
But not for Gaijin.
Yeah. Laws and stuff…
Well, as of Feb. 2020 they’ve made a few amendments to that infamous law, which now allows the use of nazi symbols in art, literature, movies, etc., so long as the authors do not endorse nazi ideology.
So I think this is just them being careful and trying not to offend the touchy people, 'Cause, you know… The times we’re living in now are… “speshal”
yeah i see. didnt even know about it . thx.
but but but what about people that sexually Identify as a swastica?
we cant be swasticaphobes!
“spashial” times indeed x)
So when will video games count as art? Cus they don’t fall under movies and literature…
next thursday.
I know, right? As if replacing the swastika with a different type of cross makes the war crimes magically phase away into different, alternative time line
This is more of a philosophical question, define “art”?
Nah this is legal question, does games count as art legally? From what I know they aren’t so this change in the law doesn’t change anything for games.
Well, the amendments also mention “educational use”, which, IMO, could apply to the game (not to any game, but to this particular one). I mean, they use real dates, depict real weapons, vehicles, real places.
I know it’s a thin line, but still, technically, they should be fine. Anyway, we all know they won’t do it, so it’s a moot point, really.
Uhm, there will always be debates about history but im quite sure theres little to none debate about who won the battle of berlin / D-Day etc. So categorising a game under educational use that allows to alter the history sounds quite far stretch.
I can only imagine what kind of bureaucratic nightmare it would be in certain countrys to have those nazi symbols presented ingame.
Absolutely not, that opens the game to totally not cheat skins for your opponents like pink models and shit to put it simply
Yes, it seems that only propaganda is prohibited…
Maybe we should talk them into defecting and move them ???
