Armored Train was a very controversial mode. Some liked it, some didn’t. I thought it was an ok mode. It was ultimately removed. I think a similar mode can work and be fun, Convoy! In Convoy one team escorts a convoy of supply trucks while the other team defends. Unlike Armored Train, this mode would be available for every single map. It will add more variety to game modes with an escort style gameplay. Logistics are extremely important and supply convoys were critical in keeping the front lines well stocked and supplied
The mode works exactly like Armored Train, you need to have majority standing near the trucks to move/ stop them

Supply convoys were mostly a target from air attacks or artillery barrages, not ground engagements.
Even when a convoy was ambushed, we’re still talking behind the lines operations, mostly partisan activity, maybe paratroopers. Certainly not regular forces… No army is going to send supply convoys into and through a hot combat zone…

There are some famous examples. Hell’s highway comes to mind.

Yes, the road which was regularly under German artillery and air attack, putting a serious wrench in Allied advances.

For the sake of gameplay they will!

The trucks wouldn’t be destructible, it’s just like armored train. There would be a line of trucks and you have to have majority standing near them to move/ stop them. You also cant physically block the path like how AT you couldn’t build on the tracks

weren’t there any attempts to cut it off by the germans, though?
They’d move in and occupy a piece of road, or a village along it. They didn’t have to attack the supply train itself to block of the flow of logistics, just cut off access to the road it ran on.
The premise for this suggestion is escorting a truck convoy under attack, Highway 69 is not an example of this.
This is a factually correct statement but based on desertions, I’d say FAR more people didn’t like it.
The problem with this is that it’s just Armored Train with wheels. The reason AT was removed wasn’t the ‘theme,’ it was the gameplay—constant desertion. If the AI can barely follow a player in a straight line, they definitely can’t handle a moving truck objective. Unless the devs completely rebuild how AI handles moving payloads, this would just be another map everyone quits instantly.
I think it was more map fatigue. I thought it could be fun, but it needed a specific map dedicated to it. Not every map has a railroad running through it. So everytime it was that Berlin map over and over and over and over again. It can be a bit tiring having the same map repeatedly. Everytime you got that mode it was the same thing again. For new maps for the mode they’d have to create more maps entirely dedicated around a railroad. (If AT were to ever return I wouldn’t mind new railroad maps be added for it)
Variety itself is its own layer of fun. Convoy will work basically on every single map. It is a new mode added into the mix. I can see it. For example, on Myansera going through the marsh villages to the temples through the city and ending in the forest. On Ver-Sur-Mer going through the beach up the hills to the village to the orchard and country side and ending at the mansion. On New Georgia going through the landing zone to the village and beached ship to the trenches to the cave and crashed plane to the bunkers and hangers. Etc etc
Also implementing Convoy would be extremely easy since it doesn’t require a special map
I suddenly remembered, did Gaijin remove the armored train escort mission?
