Tragedy in three acts:
It says something like “Connection is closed. Click OK to exit.”
When I run other mods I’ve created, this problem doesn’t occur. When I run this mod local, this problem doesn’t occur. What could I have done wrong?

It looks like to be an error with the mod
You should check if you have selected the correct campaigns on your sandbox post. It does matter

As I understand it, I need to match the mod’s army settings with the campaigns selected on the portal?

Yes. For example, if you have USA vs Japan in your mod, you would need to select pacific war
Note: USA vs USSR, Germany vs Japan, and USSR vs Japan are not possible

You must also take a look at your custom profile if you have one. It should also match the selected armies
