Computer freezing after game ends

Lately, at times my PC shortly after a game ends and you view the game statistics, when you click to end that my entire computer is freezing up. I actually have to shut the entire computer down and reboot. Until recently, I had always played with my computer set at DX11 because DX12 was unstable. About a month ago, I tried DX12 and it apparently had been updated because now I can play with DX12. That being said, I thought maybe it was just DX12 that might be freezing my computer, but I went back to DX11 and two games in a row ended, and both locked up my computer. Is anyone having the same issues? Just curious as to if something on my computer changed (maybe a Nvidia update) or if others experienced the same issue.

I’m not sure when my Nvidia updated, but I guess I will roll back the update and see if that changes anything.

think this is your PC issue and diagnosing it can be complicated. that is why you always start with standard:
check CPU and GPU temp under load(MSI afterburner is good tool to see this while in game)
update GPU drivers(or roll them back to previous if they are on newest version)
check task manager while playing
do virus scan

Its the Russians they are behind it. @Deus_Vult88 stop hacking his computer

Now everything will improve   Deus is removing the competition from ranked I’m informed I know everything in this forum  Installing unauthorized software on your device may give you a ban but what if you install it on other peoples devices:

Well, my computer was ready for the newest Nvidia update, so I let it update. Restarted my computer and played three games with DX12 and no issues. So, maybe the last Nvidia update didn’t agree with my computer. IDK, we’ll see if it remains stable.

Since it happens on both DX11 and DX12 right when you click out of the post-match stats, your PC is freezing during the transition when the game unloads the 3D match environment from VRAM/RAM and drops your GPU load back to idle/menu states. A recent Nvidia update very likely triggered this.

Before or while rolling back your driver, try these specific fixes:

  1. Disable Nvidia Highlights / ShadowPlay (Most likely culprit): Right when you close the post-game stats screen, Nvidia Highlights flushes or saves the temporary video buffer from the match. If the driver bugs out during that disk/VRAM write, it hard-locks the whole PC. Press Alt + Z → Settings → Highlights and turn it off (try disabling the Nvidia Overlay entirely to test).
  2. Use DDU when rolling back (Clear Shader Cache): Since you swapped between DX11 and DX12 across driver updates, your shader cache might be corrupted. Don’t just roll back over the existing driver—use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to wipe the current driver and shader cache completely before installing the older driver.
  3. Prevent GPU Power-State Drop: Clicking to exit the match causes your GPU load and voltage to drop instantly from 3D load to idle, which can cause a hard lock on unstable drivers. Go to Nvidia Control Panel → Manage 3D Settings → Program Settings (select the game) → set Power management mode to Prefer maximum performance.
  4. Turn off HAGS: Go to Windows Settings → System → Display → Graphics → Default graphics settings → toggle off Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling and reboot. Recent Nvidia drivers are notorious for hard-freezing during scene transitions when HAGS is enabled.

P.S try start furmark and make one test, to make sure ur GPU is ok
But I think a driver rollback will probably fix about 80% of all problems

Jokes aside, thanks for these tips.

I’ve recently gotten a few BSOD’s after exiting the game and suspected it was voltage related. I recently updated the GPU driver as well so I imagine that’s the culprit.

Well, there could be a lot of factors.

I don’t know what PSU you have, but it might have degraded over time, dropping its rated wattage. When the voltage spikes, it triggers a BSOD.

Here is where I would definitely start: benchmark your GPU in FurMark or test it using MSI Afterburner. Check the voltages and maybe even look into the power delivery/cable setup of your card. Also, what power plan are you currently using - Balanced, High Performance, or Max Performance? Personally, I would try undervolting the card or rolling back the drivers if this started happening after the latest update.

There’s even a slight chance that your DP/HDMI cable is worn out, or the port has a loose contact. This can cause the screen to go black for a couple of seconds and then come back on, which might trigger a BSOD during intense gaming sessions.

Since I don’t know your exact specs, I can only give you general advice for now

But in my experience, 80% of the time it’s due to a recent driver update.

Try rolling it back, or just do a clean reinstall. But first, make sure to back up your settings if you’ve done any fine-tuning—there are tools out there that can completely save your Nvidia profile and configurations.

After that, use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to completely wipe the ‘bad new’ driver, and then roll back to a stable older version

So far after updating my Nvidia I have played six games and not a freeze up yet. I guess we’ll see.

BTW, I run High or Ultra on just about everything and have for three years, when I got this computer and have never had any issues except for the occasional network connection. When the Dev’s update, after a few of them my computer jerked and had issues, but those usually cleared up after a couple days, maybe something the Dev’s did, not sure.

When I run DX12 I don’t use the Ray Tracing. I have tried, and other then being in a tank it spudders, of course, I could turn the graphics down from high, but I have played so lon g without the ray tracing I am fine without it.

Great advice again, thank you. I will experiment once I’m at home later.
