Color-coded artillery markers

At the bare minimum, please color-code artillery by team.

Do I have to make an argument for this?

this was already approved by the devs, they’re aware and we might see it soon

How long has it been since that was forwarded?

I still have a funni suggestion that was forwarded over half a year ago that hasn’t even seen the light of day.

As memey as Soon™ is, it’s kind of getting depressing.

4 months ago. Even if it’s forwarded it doesn’t mean it will be approved though.

yeah I must’ve remembered it wrong

Knowing that Helpers already filter out most suggestions, then even those get filtered again is kind of depressing, but understandable.

That, or they’re on the forever backburner, changes deemed too minor to prioritize work with. I don’t know, I’m not a dev.

Just pretend this thread is a friendly reminder people are asking for it.

They do read the suggestions nonetheless. I made suggestions that might seem minor in the past and certain aspects of it made it into the game or it’s already in their interest to develop. Things like choosing AI squad formation, the player choosing AI behavior to be passive/aggressive, AI seeking cover, brighter aircraft gun reticle.

well, there is one counter argument.

it could be used to your own advantage.

one thing is crossing the red circle and find out that it’s not yours it’s one thing,

another is to find that it’s from your team.

also, it would prevent some people to actually cross from both sides.

in my opinion, it’s better if you don’t know it.

otherwise you’d find people charing in the blue with no repercussion.

i think at least a psycological color would be better than improve arties.

sure, it’s not the end of the day, but it would give a signal to who should do what

( for example, wait, see the circle, recognize the color, and then advance. )

too meta.

and i find it better if it’s more of a risk rather than an assurance.

About arty, still wish smoke barrage would have a separate, shorter timer…

Helpers forwarded and even said the idea is good.

But… yeah. Been a while…

in the case of an air attack it is “relatively” easy to detect whether it is an ally or enemy, but in the case of artillery it needs an adjustment

Ok, color code arty. But only if we have FF on.
Otherwise ppl will run through it and that’s stupid.

My only objection to this it will disfavor solo players compare to players in group that easily can communicate and help each other.

Also, since the communication wheel is so crude, there’s no way for console players to ask about arty/bombing runs. Nor can they be warned in chat about it, since they can see typed chat.

I would add an individual counter, that is, artillery on one side, air attack on the other and finally tactical smoke screen with different counters for each one but shared by the team, so if Bob launches artillery attack and Pablo launches air attack, these come on CD

Friendly Fire arty…

I’m not sure people think it’s as good an idea as you all think it to be. Griefing is a thing.

That’s why all arty has the same color.
So we can have the same result as FF without FF.

This sounds a lot less like something intentionally decided by the devs, and more as “justifying after the fact”.

The old arty had friendly fire. But it was toned down, and now eventually reduced to no friendly fire damage at all.

If the intention of the devs is to purposely confuse players about whether or not artillery is friendly, but made it something you can easily test merely by standing within the circle and checking if you receive noticeable screenshake but no damage, then it’s a stupid way of going about it.

Devs intended arty to do FF but it was deleted due to ppl being stupid. So “wrong color” and some screen shake is the best we can get.
It is stupid. But less stupid than ppl dropping arty and intentionally running through.

What’s stopping vindicative players from, say, dropping arty on friendly concentrations of infantry, or rally points?

Read my post again.

Likewise.

FF is a bad idea.

Returning FF simply because arty is going to be color coded, even moreso.

Just ask yourself.

What’s the point of distinguishing between the 2 kinds of arty, if both of them are going to kill you anyway?
