Now at a distance a tank is much stronger than an infantryman, but up close a tank is much weaker than a couple of soldiers with explosives. As long as this is the case, people will stand far away from the battlefield.

This is also part of the gameplay changes. However, this should go hand in hand with other changes that would give the infantry more means to fight at range with tanks. Otherwise it would just be a reinforcement of the tanks.
When you understand how bots work its quite simple to sneak completly around them i learned that you never sprint near then and shot, you just arm grenede/demo pack and wait, then throw and they even go near grenede/det pack to try to throw it back but fail at it bad, lets be honest bots here are stupid af but have just redicoulus aimbot and know instantly where you are (i love being one tap from bot with mg on move)
Mark tank, plane drop bombs. The solution to those “safe area” tank campers can be dealt with. Sometimes I run into the safe area just to throw dynamite at them.

So maybe 50m circle. Or circle + cone, although circle alone is “magical” enough, adding cone would be straight up silly from the logical perspective.
That’s why I proposed to add new “tank support AI”, that will focus on the AT infantry and enemies with TNT in hand if the AI soldier is close to the tank.

People will not follow the tanks doesn’t matter what you do is not profitable
Most tanks are not anti infantry (Panther, and m10 as an example) is not how they should be used.
If this will apply tanks will simply not be profitable anymore and ppl will switch to planes.
True, tanks like the Panther and M10 (as well as the SU-85 and jagdpanzer 4A) make absolutely no sense to go up against infantry. They are big, often clumsy, have long guns and long reload times.
Penalizing players for using them for their intended purpose is strange.

So use lighter tanks. Puma, stuart, PzIII, scott (although open top can be a problem), Sherman, PzIVH they all are prefectly fine vs infantry. Actually ~3/5 of tanks in Normandy are fine vs infantry.
Unless they’ve changed something. Tbh I haven’t played properly with tanks for a few months. I have a fighter in my vehicle slot.
M8, pz3 m4 are good
Puma, pz4, Panther are not good
And rember that all the m4 line up has AP basically useless if you’re not using the jumbo.
Being forced to chose between antitank capabilities and anti infantry capabilities is not a good thing.
Panzer 4h is pretty good in anti infantry from my experience
It is a good thing. SMGs are good at close, sniper rifles are good at range. Some tanks are good vs tanks, others are good vs infantry.

I play in an aggressive style with tanks where I’m almost always on the front lines, so yes good in an anti infantry role
