I thought US troops did spawn in the barges since long ago? Rarely in my experiences, though.
Personally I would like to see them change it to where at the start of the game, the barges are still coming in off the ocean. They hit the shoreline and open, then act as the spawn points.
It would both add immersion as well as give the defenders just a little bit more time to setup in advance.

If I remember correctly…
US troops in Normandy DO spawn in the barges, except at match start there’s no room for everyone spawning at the same time, so several squads spawn nearby on the beach.
And, as a matter of fact, if by the time you spawn a second squad there aren’t any rally points in the bunkers or trenches to spawn from, your team is already messing up.
They already spawn in the landing craft, for big squad 7-9 soldier there is no sufficient space so they spawn on the beach always, 4-6 soldier squad after their initial spawn if you select the beach main spawn they spawn in the landing craft
And half of the german always spawned in the bunkers and the other half in the beach hinterland at match start
I think once they kick the PS4 and older Xbox generations off and get to use more graphic and cpu power they should make all the allies on the beach at the first point spawn in boats that are a few seconds out from hitting the sand, then the gate drops. It would give German planes and the shore batteries something to do, and it would make the US planes, like the P-38 and P-51 something more to do than kill 1 guy per payload and then turn around. They need to cover them. It would make Paras all that more vital too.
I’m bias because my first 3 matches in this game that got me hooked were all on Omaha beach.
The thing with the D-Day beach is that there isn’t much to hide behind unless you lay down behind a sand dune, so I think there should be a little more added to the beach for this purpose or the MG-42 gonna get ya.
Really? I mean I’ve played the D-Day landings so many times and not once have I spawned in a barge until after the suggestion.
Shovels. Normandy has the deepest trenching depths in the game. Engineers come with shovels by default and you can get 2x for 1 silver order for your other troops.
Adding the melee perk onto your troops with shovels even makes them dig faster.
Trenching is VERY effective on D-Day, so long as you don’t dig a trench straight at the objective, which makes it even easier for them to kill you.
Dig trenches to more effectively get to the flanks and you won’t have any problem. In fact, you’ll even have more cover from bombs and artillery.
