CAS needs to change fundamentally

I’ve been playing Berlin pretty much exclusively since both other campaigns you get bombed round the clock till the match is over. Berlin has much less bomber spam.

I decided to dip my toes in Normandy and was immediately greeted with 2 players wiping everything out on the planet via kamikaze or just flying back and forth from the magical ammo dump in the sky that teleports bombs into your plane.

Traverse on the AA is still dog shit. Multiple hits still don’t bring it down. Meanwhile I am completely out of the fight sitting on an AA gun. Soon as I shoot one down another immediately spawns or I see the player who’s killed 150+ people suicide his two infantry squads and immediately get back into his plane.

I initially colocated the AA gun near where’d he’d bomb. Ended up having to use my AA clips to defend the gun itself since people constantly were going on “deep flanks”.

I ended up just building the AA guns in my spawn. Unfortunately because the maps are so open in Normandy there’s always at least one troglodyte looking to spawn camp, so once again most of my ammo went to fighting people off in my own spawn.

Overall it’s a shitty experience and it needs to change.

PS: because I kept shooting down planes instead of playing the actual game I got dog shit experience points for it, which means I got dogshit rewards. Zero reward, zero incentive to sit there and baby sit people abusing an overpowered mechanic.

Also trying to play an infantry based game, not an AA simulator. Thank god for Berlin or else I probably would have uninstalled much sooner. Trying to decide if I will finish this battle pass out or not.

Without even touching on how enjoyable gameplay is or balance, it undermines any sense of consequence to your actions. Destroy a tank? Another one instantly spawns. Destory a plane? another one instantly spawns. Miss spraying 500lb bombs everywhere? just drive 1000m and get telewarped more! It feels totally and utterly trivial.

I thought they nerfed the bomb blast radius? I played only one match today and a 50kg bomb dropped a few meters from me and it didn’t even shake my screen. But that could have just been a fluke.

I didn’t see anything in the patch notes about changing blast radius. Idk tho.

The sheer frequency ensured that 90% of what I heard was just massive explosive after massive explosion, so form an audio perspective it was repetitive and boring.

In berlin people don’t really start spaming aircraft unless it gets into the open areas, even then it’s not nearly as bad as Moscow or Normandy.

maybe they could take the BF approach where if your vehicle gets destroyed then your entire team has to wait some time before they can spawn that same type of vehicle again. so for example of jose_garcia_2010 hops into a puma and charges into battle then gets destroyed by a 75mm HE shell, his entire team loses that tank slot for maybe around 20-70 seconds. this, i believe, would punish bad/scummy players

A simple 60 second delay on spawning after destruction of a vehicle would change this dramatically.

Some semblance of a break from vehicles after hunting a tank or sitting on a flak gun would be great. Instead of literally just a lemming stream of some of the most powerful weapons in the game.

This is the first two under fixes in the patch notes, but I really have no idea what it means, gamewise.

Still I will stick to Berlin and finish this battlepass and then probably uninstall for awhile.

Totally agree with all your points. Was just getting spammed on multiple games and trying to counter with AA, zero effect. Just not fun. The graphics, sounds and technical implementation are superb, but the game mechanics just don’t really currently work.

IMO they need to make only a couple of changes.

Remove all ground fire weapons from fighters. They should be there to anti air not add to air support.

Make bombers spawn a decent distance from the fight, like 5km or so. So it takes a while to get into the fight so intercept is possible. Fighters should be right to spawn closer so they can be used reactively to a bomber threat.

Lastly, all players should get a warning when an enemy bomber spawns, to give time for aa guns to be built and fighters to be spawned.

Preferably people will be given a ‘fighter’ slot for their loadout that can only have a fighter in it, so everyone can have one in their roster to intercept with.
