"Can't shoot there, friendly forces in that area!"

An idea for a “soft” intervention against excessive arty / mortar spam.

The above message (or something alike) would pop up whenever a player tries to target with artillery or mortar an area where friendly troops are within the blast radius (or a least within the possible shells spread), preventing fire.

This would prevent unrealistic spamming of artillery over contested zones full of friendlies, and at the same time it should help preventing accidental (or intentional) mass teamkills in case friendly fire is on, like it’s happening in LF mode.

Do you think that could work?

it will work with mortar stopping spam but with artillery attack it is difficult the artillery takes time to shoot in the meantime the enemy troops move or avoid it, sadly firing on your allies in cqc is now the best way to use it without making mistakes
you could also increase the area indicated as an area at risk of friendly fire but then everyone would complain because it has been nerfed

Only can be placed where friendlies are not, like op stated. Then warn any friendlies who enter a placed artillery area of incoming fire?

This might help in some very obvious situations but it would be difficult to code on a fast changing battlefield.

If they were to do this I also like the idea of also warning the friendly players when they are entering into an area where friendly fire could occurring …

I don’t think it’s that difficult, because it’s sort of a one-time instant check:

The game already knows the potential radius shells have a chance to fall within.

When player clicks arty or mortar:
Friendlies within said area = true → no firing, “Can’t shoot” message.
Friendlies within said area = false → fire.

Of course it isn’t error proof since friendlies may enter the area AFTER the shells are fired, but still it would be something.

Never considered the team arty as massive issue as it rarely happened to me.

So enemy is capping point A > You cant order artillery as theres that 1 teammate braiding hes pubic hairs hidden in barn > cap lost > delayed artillery has little to none effect.

however, there should be punishment for teamkilling id go far as autokick.

the funniest thing is when your ally hits you with the artillery and doesn’t even apologize
so funny that you don’t spend the rest of the match throwing grenades at him

they’re firing it off every 48 seconds or 3 minutes. I doubt they care or notice any team damage team kills because A. they aren’t punished, any negative score is outweighed by massacering the entire enemy team.

I notice when my squad at A is oblitered by friendly fire
and I point it out at least one sorry from culprit I don’t ask to much

I think they need to leave it as it is. Sometimes when losing countrol point on map there is one friendly and in the building, would be frustrating not to call it arty on that spot. Sometimes you also want to call on your position if enemies are surrounding you. Also i very rarely see arty team kills, mostly multiple teammates get killed by plane bombs dropped too close.

How about “Can’t shoot there, MULTIPLE friendlies in that area?” (minimum friendly units number required to trigger the block)
