I finally got the USA assault engineer event squad and I expected I can equip them with any SMGs so I can bring them down to BR 3. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. Only the Hyde M1944 is available.
Is this the same case with the event assault engineer squads of Germany and USSR? I don’t have those squads tho 
Weird, aren’t they supposed to be able to use rifles as well?
They can use all rifles and carbines as any ordinary engineer should. However, since they are “assault” engineers, I thought I can also equip them with any SMG/assault rifle. I’m wondering if this is the same case with the assault engineer event squads of Germany and USSR.
You can give them regular engineer weapons, they can’t use SMG’s, the other assault engineers can’t either
Unfortunately, yes.
This idiotic restriction stems from the fact that in the Stalingrad campaign, engineers (for some reason) could use assault rifles. Therefore, assault engineers can now only use assault rifles, but not SMGs.
There weren’t even any Assault Rifles in Stalingrad for soviet engies to use - they had same AVT40 any basic engineer in Berlin could take.
And German engies in that campaign never had magical 80% damage reduction helmets and were stuck with basic ass MKb42w.
US assault engineers can at least use now-buffed M1 Carbines and Garands to be better than any Assaulter with tech-tree guns of same BR.
nope, only ARs.
Assault engineers were a thing in Stalingrad campaign since in SG engineers could use ARs.
This feature was removed from them (for balance) and reintroduced as event squads for all factions.
