I still find it so hilarious that a bunch of grown men were genuinely triggered about the casting for a movie meant for little girls. Still remember all the funny ass videos soyboys were posting on youtube crying about it at the time
Never understood why blackface is considered problematic.
I always found this strange, too. Perhaps it’s because even the most sensitive Afroamericans are simply offended when they are parodied in such a way.
It was so because during the beginning of Hollywood, there just wasn’t much darker skinned actors on hand at all (making movies was rather new). So pale skinned actors painted their faces to impersonate darker skin characters. That was the reason back then anyway.
The opposite today (replacement of pale by dark) is only to tick inclusivity boxes, disregarding source material or plot. Pretty common.
