When I do strafing runs (most fun way to play with planes) I need to wait to get around 500 or less meters close to the ground for enemy infantry to start rendering - which is almost always too close for me to pull up again.
Looking for infantry targets is almost impossible to do, there must be a way for this to work technically.
Infantry and also the buildings and all stuff on the ground.
So weird to see it suddenly appear as you get closer to the ground…
Once, I was strafing infantry, got closer, suddenly a whole train appeared in front of them, covering them.
1000m would totally be more than enough maybe even 800m, they could even hide allied infantry if it helps with performance, 1000m gives you enough time to redirect your attack path after spotting a target, but depending how steep your attack angle is, I usually pull up again at maximum 300 meters, which is currently the altitude where I start acquiring a target.
In other words, the only effective way to do strafing runs right now is going full kamikaze.
It’s about time something was done. Nowadays, aircraft kills mostly rely on lucky hits with large bombs and rockets. I once suggested that for planes without weapon mounts, increasing the rendering distance for targets would allow them to use machine guns to strafe infantry, making them more useful. This would be a real benefit to pilots.
There are a few other points, too. Take anti-aircraft guns, for example—sometimes when the enemy sets up a defensive line with AA, it becomes really frustrating. If they patiently hold their positions, planes can barely take off because of the pre-aiming reticle. Increasing the rendering distance in advance could also help aircraft counter anti-aircraft defenses more effectively.
