It has been a while since shotgun where more effective than rushing with a knife, so can we have shotguns that do something up to at least 40m, and that aren’t a throw of the dice at point blank range?
What makes it even worse is shotguns are only for assaulters meaning we have to sacrifice an SMG for a shotgun and it just isnt worth it
there is the option ti sacrifice backpacks for 2 main weapons but in this state is not worth it.
Yeah I’d rather just bring more ammo or grenades over a shotgun
I would not even downgrade a second line bolt action rifle for a knife that needs to reload every two hits, and some times decides to deal no damage.
the other day i saw a guy with a shotgun on normandy, he was 5 meters away from me and i was reloading. it took him 3 bloody shots to take down my character.
that was actually a very sad experience.
it’s like he was shooting with an oversized pistol.
pistol are faster and have more ammunition they are literally better.

Agree with everyone . Devs please fix shotguns the Luftwaffe drilling in Tunisia is so weak like the others are saying I’m registering very weak hits within 10 meters or less. Too bad, the safari style drilling is sexy looking …
Shotguns are notoriously hard to balance. There used to be a time when they suffered from the same issue that Payday 2 did, being that every single pellet would do full weapon damage. It was ridiculous.
But honestly? They deserve to be a bit more useful. Give them a closer ‘killzone’ or at least give them slugs.

Shotguns should be about as effective as a rifle out to like 50 meters, depending if DF actually models individual pellets or not.
IRL, each pellet in a shell of 00 buck is about like a .38 special round, and there’s 9 of em in a shell. If each pellet is say, 5 damage, like a small pistol round in enlisted currently, if you hit someone with every pellet at point blank, that’s 45 damage.
Out at 50 yards you’re only likely to get 2-3 pellets on a man-sized target, which brings the damage down to a reasonable 10-15. At long range there’s so much spread that even a single pellet is lucky.
That would be a realistic and balanced way to do shotguns without having them be ridiculous.
Here we go again, having to defend my beloved shotguns. These times are when I regret deleting 100 gb’s worth of shotgun futage to eventually make a shotgun compilation video but didn’t have the time ultimately because of uni and ran out of space on my hard drive
If any of you want to give the shotgun a chance, take the secondary weapon instead of backpacks. Take an smg as your primary and shotgun as secondary.
The early smg’s run out of ammo way faster than you could ever clear a room with them (at least on Tunisia), which is when the shotgun comes handy. Rifles are a bit RNG when it comes to close range, erratic fights. Use this to your advantage. Shotguns are very, very good at hipfiring and you can easily one shot anyone inside houses, granted that house is not like a huge market or something.
I usually play assaulters as aggressive as possible, mowing down enemies from afar with smg’s (my favorite rn is the M2A1 carabine on Normandy, it destroys enemies mid-long range if you learn to use it but chews trough ammo so engineer is recommended). All this for the allied side with god’s gift to humanity, the Winchester.
On the axis side, it’s moree tricky since they have the Luftwaffe drilling. It’s a weapon that physically can’t clear an entire squad. It’s really good for running in, killing a guy or two, then run back to cover for a quick reload. Rinse and repeat. I found them even more effective for longer ranges but at some point rifles easily outgun the LD.
Honestly I love both shotgun playstyles because they require you to use your brain the most. There aree maps where you will never pull it out tho and it’s okay. On some other maps tho…mmmm, perfection.
My recommended perks run speed, reload speed, weapon switch speed and the usual best perks if you don’t get any of these like jump height, higher chance to be downed on hit, head shake reduction etc.
They where fine before the nerf, reliable at close range (less than 45m), useful at longer ranges but still not as effective as rifles.
They worked fine as they should,the nerf made no sense at all.
I surprised that the developers haven’t reverted the shotgun nerf there was really nothing wrong with them before. The nerf was a rather bad call perhaps they will revert it soon as god knows how many people have been making posts about it for awhile now.
Just please developers revert the shotgun nerf.
Shotguns in the past were a dumb choice as the main weapon and okayish sidegrade as a secondary weapon in comparison to the backpacks. Right now, I feel ashamed for still keeping them in secondary slot since knife or pistol does the job far better.
There was nothing really wrong with them as they were situational anyway.
Shotgun nerf is horrible and uncalled for. As such, it should be reverted or shotguns should buffed considerably.
I don’t get it why shotgun can’t one shot from close range when bolt rifles does same much longer range anyway and snipers even further.
And i don’t mean that if one pellet hit it would be one shot but when most of them lands it should one shot enemy.
Or have an ammo pack which is 100 times better than a shotgun. O a grenade pack, or two medkits, anyways anything.
Shotguns currently do not even compete for the pistol slot.
