Can we get a rough idea when we're gonna get new AA guns or fixing them or are they just fancy paperweights

Or do we just give up using them all together because we don’t want to hurt the Plane community and just have plain duels to the death

AA guns may not be the shredders like they once were, but they still get the job done to the best of their ability. I’ve suggested they could add Heavy AA guns like the Flak 8.8 so we have a stronger addition

They could also add stronger multi barrel anti air guns, or even just different variants in general just for variety. They could have different resource costs so we have to weigh our options when we’re an Engineer

Will they also have the awful depression that the current AA guns have?

Because frankly, I prefer to see the devs fixing existing stuff first, rather than add new, possibly broken, things.

It’s to stop people from using them against infantry. It was an absolute nightmare when they could. Basically an HMG that was five times as powerful and five times harder to destroy.

So if we go back to heavier AA guns, they should not change the depression. Trust me.

Heavy AA guns should have total traversal because many of them acted as anti tank guns as well, giving us two options for gameplay

And they theoretically could give the original AA guns full traversal. Yeah they may be able to shred but they’re huge targets. It did happen during the war

I’ve seen their effectiveness back in the day, when they were quad mounts.

But now, they became kind of pointless, useful only in niche situations.
Heck, some even complained that they can’t even target lowly flying air targets because of this!
Not to mention that a single barrel wouldn’t be as powerful as they once were.

Either way, they already are overnerfed, and I doubt there is much reason to leave them as is, they need to have some more utility.

My bad, I misinterpreted your original quote as not knowing how it used to be.

I get it, I personally do fine with AA guns, but everyone’s experience is different. But consider how messy it can get. Not only does it make HMGs kinda useless (why stick with .50s when you can have four 20mm cannons?) but if we look on a faction by faction basis, it gets worse.

For the US in particular, the preferred AA gun was the M45, four .50 Browning M2s on a mount. Similar to what’s used on the M13 MGMC and what’s used on M16 MGMC.

People were furious when the pacific came out because of the .50s, if you add something like the M45, which has four, it could just become a nightmare for infantry that the four 20mm gun could only dream of. And make HMGs completely useless.

That is true, the only somewhat redeeming factor the (H)MGs have is unlimited ammo.
I suppose there has to be… cost reductions for (H)MGs, to make them more viable, in addition to making them easier to build in various places.

I think the devs need to add a single 20 mm oerlikon as AA;

While (H)MGs can more or less do what they were doing.

Remove depression limit, remove overheat, and jack down the fire rate on some AA such as Flak 38 because it shoots too fast.
