I love how bullets can penetrate light timber and that. It would be nice if they passed through soldiers also. I propose this:
Penetration by material type: assign materials simple resistances (e.g., timber low, concrete high, metal very high) so bullets pass through wood but stop on thick concrete.
Calibre & velocity matter: higher-calibre/velocity rounds penetrate more (use a simple penetration value per ammo type).
Thickness check: subtract material resistance × thickness from bullet penetration — if remaining > 0, bullet continues.
Damage falloff on pass-through: when a bullet penetrates, reduce damage (e.g., −30–50% per penetration) and lower remaining penetration capacity.
Max penetrations per bullet: cap at 2–3 objects to avoid absurd multi-kills.
Human bodies as soft materials: let bullets pass through people but heavily reduce damage after first body (e.g., 70% damage first hit, 30% second).
Angle & range modifiers: oblique angles reduce penetration; longer range reduces velocity/penetration.
Visual & audio feedback: show bullet holes, splinters, and distinct ricochet sounds so players understand mechanics.
Performance-friendly checks: use simplified raycasts + material lookup instead of per-frame physics for server performance.
Balance note: tune values so wooden cover is risky but still useful; prevent cheap long-range multi-body kills.
And fix the no tanks blatting you through seeminly 4 indestructable walls and no elite bot sniper shots from 150 clicks away taking advantage of the 35% probability of wall penetration through also said amount of walls that stands between you and them. Whateva bot is doing that should play the lottery! Xxx
Need a bit more detail on this - light vehicles often have little or no armour on top, making them vulnerable to top attack - which can happen if your ground based MG has a decent height advantage, but of course aircraft always have much more height advantage!!
Well, when thinking of light armored I was thinking about something like trucks rather. Infantry MGs should be able to destroy their engines just as planes do, they arent bulletproof. Even hand grenades should be able to deal dmg to them, idk why Enlisted is so inconsistent when it comes to such things
Ah - yes trucks seem pretty resistant to damage - even to aircraft machineguns and cannon IMO.
And of course aircraft are usually firing more than 1 gun - often cannon, HMG’s and/or MG’s combined rather than just 1 MG - but even with multiple weapons you’re just doing non-kill module damage
So I don’t know that infantry MG’s are overly disadvantaged
I think that when you are lining up a shot with a panzerfaust and you get the exact right angle and then launch it, only to have one of your bots run directly in front of you, it should NOT blow you up. I know its “realistic” to have it blow you up, but its also not realistic for trained soldiers to run right in front of another soldier when they are shooting an AT launcher, soldiers are trained to stand away from the front while firing and also away from the behind in the case of launchers that have a back blast.
That is so cheap and so annoying, and it happens even if you think you parked your bots somewhere, one of will randomly just decide to walk right in front of where you are shooting your panzefaust or bazooka or other rocket.
They also do this occasionally when you are sniping but its much less annoying as it doesn’t kill your AT solder.
Would it be a problem if a panzerfaust or rocket could just move through infantry instead of detonating on infantry? I don’t think people use the panzerfaust or bazookas to kill infantry very often, and even then maybe just make it so the projectile does not detonate if it hits a bot in the same squad, it just clips through the bot as the bots will wander around.
Yes, its quite bad, I wish that some low mm vehicle parts could get damaged by other means than just strong explosives and armor piercing rounds either from nests or AT weapons. Lets take for example tank MGs, which could easily by damaged from enemy fire, or this paper thin 4mm armor, which im sure realistically could be damaged in way more of ways than currently
Yes machine guns and such should be able to damage light vehicle’s. I destroyed an Allied spawn vehicle with my MG 42 100 round but took me all my ammo 300 rounds.
The War Thunder module damage system that Enlisted has inherited uses ammo explosions and crew casualties as the main mechanism to destroy vehicles - module damage alone hardly ever does it.
I think 1 of the reasons why APC’s and trucks are resistant to damage is likely that htey do not have ammo, nor do they have crew - so the 2 main mechanisms are useless!!
as others have noted they do have fuel tanks that can explode - but those are very limited in size even when they are out in the open, and sometimes are hidden reasonably well -
