Alright. So I returned to the game after a little time off, to find out that the academy was gone… what!? Now I’ve read through some of the comments that like the change, but I don’t really agree. The academy added the squad management into the game, moving squad members around to flex into other squads until your new upgraded soldier came out of the academy. Now you just use up your orders to upgrade them… there is no need for managing anymore, which was half of the enjoyment for me as a squad managing shooter.
MY OPINION… please bring academy back!

Nah… since bronze economy FOR TROOPS has been adjusted, the new system is just fine. I’d perhaps implement perk points back, but that’s it 🤷
Hoping for an adjusted economy for weapons as well…

Not only was it a big grind to get a single soldier to 5 star there is also noting that guarantees a good points roll. Unless you keep using select tickets I guess. Now you can find good soldiers and just upgrade them instead of losing them to the academy.
Less soldier bloat too… All those pilots!!! Management becomes such a pain to deal with. Some people have thousands of knifes from this back in the day aswell…

You just reminded me I STILL have hundreds of pilots to “sell”! I found it to be too much of a chore to sort through all “good stats/bad stats” ones and got bored

There’s always ‘people’ that will want one option or the other. I liked it, the ‘grind’ to get good troops was part of the squad management. I liked having to throw level one troops into squads every now and then to get them their star and then send them to the academy. Now it’s just easy, no more management
You would send 3, one star recruits to the academy to get a two star back. 3 two stars to get a three star, so on, so on. But it made you think about squads more, it made you use lower level guys to get level them to get there star(s) to be able to send them to level up. I liked it, but as you can see, a lot didn’t as well. Always that 50/50

It is still grindy, If your build really needs perfect soldiers you will be spending plenty of silver orders. Then you need to grind for bronze orders to actually level them. Which is not that big on Tier 1 soldiers but when you want to use Tier 2 and 3 it adds up quick. Once that is done you will be playing quite some matches to get the perks you want depending how lucky you are.

I think that if they just reimplement retraining points this “new” system would be perfect imo
(And maybe some changes to tier 2-3 troops upgrade costs)

The academy was interesting and fun for a while but it was a major burden on free to play and put a massive power gap between those with good perk 5 star soldiers and everyone else. The current system is sustainable and equal footing for everyone. If anyone asks why 5 star rank 3 soldiers cost so much, blame the Academy

The marrocan trooper squad in tunisia costing 72 bronze per soldier to upgrade. My bronze order reserves died that day. but was worth it for reload speed…
