Currently, equipping even a single BR V weapon forces an entire lineup into the BR IV–V matchmaking queue. This heavily punishes players who want to experiment with mixed loadouts or bring a single high-tier weapon into battle.
The Proposed Solution:
Instead of relying strictly on the highest-tier item, matchmaking should use a Weighted Squad BR Score (similar to a Balance of Power scale).
Each piece of equipment adds points based on its Battle Rating.
The sum of these points determines your final squad placement on a dynamic scale from BR I to BR V.
Bringing mostly BR I gear with just one BR V weapon will place you in a lower queue (e.g., BR II or III) instead of throwing you straight to the top tier.
This change will encourage equipment variety and create a much fairer experience for everyone!
This would allow players with an absurd amount of squads to rotate the same 3 fully equiped BR5 in a lower BR environnement by ensuring that all their remaining squads have a BR1 loadout.
A system like this could definitely be interesting, but not as a replacement for the existing BR system within Squads. Perhaps it could be it’s own game mode with a separate queue?
While it’s an interesting concept, just thinking about this for a second alone i came up with soooo many possible exploits. One of them is this, you take sniper squad and bring only 4 soldiers. In your score system example you posted, BR 1 items cost 10 pts each. And 1x SF costs 50 points, that means i could run 4 soldiers with 4x SF on BR 2.
If this to be implemented, there’s a whole lot more things to be done and some of them would be really complicated to properly implemented. I don’t think the devs would do this as it requires A LOT of work.
This would need a ton of meticulous balancing / testing to get right and even then it would probably be abused by seal clubbers.
I voted yes only because this sort of fosters more historically accurate loadouts. For instance a german rifleman squad with BR2 Kar 98s and then a single BR5 MG42. A system like the one proposed would reward that loadout while the existing system punishes it, if you can look at it that way.
Vehicle BR weights would have to be left alone because there is much less granularity with those than there are squads. One BR5 tank floating down to BR4 and then potentially being down-tiered again to BR3 would be virtually invincible.
With the points in the suggestion, while not final, you could field 5 SFs for 250 points + 4 BR1 Rifles for 40 points alternatively 4 SFs for 200 points + 5 BR2 rifles for 100 points and still sit in BR3 or. Imagine getting uptiered into 5 AVTs with a Mannlicher and you can already see some problems without a lot of thought put into breaking the system.
While the current BR system is by no means perfect any sort of weighted or percentage based system will lead to major problems for new players who simply lack any F2P means to combat high BR equipment.
It sounds very interesting, but I think the developer would have to put much more effort into balancing such a system than simply assigning a Battle Rating to a weapon based on its power.
Perharps, to compile such a hybrid battle rating, one would likely need to calculate the setup’s power based on its three strongest squads.
It’s not hard to not equip your event/bp weapons until you unlock its tier… I did when I got some and realized that that’s not right and just waited until I got to its tier.
I think a way to fix such a problem is by maybe limiting the range of the weight system like 1 or 2 br’s up or down and also weigh the br between squads as well
I’ve thought of this idea myself as well. However, I realized it’s not a recommended idea, because experienced players would bring Sabo or guerrilla squads equipped with BR5 weapons into low BR.
