I think it would be a good idea to have magazines weapons to be more ammo inefficient. By that I mean if reloaded early all ammo in the magazine will be “lost”. I also think it would add more depth to when to use them like when to reload and making sure there is ammo creates around to keep them top up.
Box magazine (MGs, Semi-autos, SMGs).
This will make the bolt actions rifles have an advantage over the boxed magazines in that they are more ammo efficient. You don’t lose ammo reloading clip-based weapons. (Bolt Actions)
why would a soldier toss a magazine with ammo? They would retain it back into the pouch as a fall back. 15 rounds is alot more effective than 0. Currently most magazine fed weapons such as LMGs have a pathetic magazine count anyway, this would make it worse

This is just a simplistic way to keep track of the box magazines. Anything more complex than that gets too deep into realism. They are not tossing it… The animation should show them putting them back at least. Also this is combat they are not repacking these things either. Also wouldn’t you be using magazine pouches with the gunner anyways?
Most people dont want to play find the ammo all game. I dont. Most dont. I think the current system works pretty well.

I just thought of something better divide the pool into magazines and when you reload you load in the next highest magazine. That is another way.
You mean each magazine has its own individual ammo count starting at full and after shooting it loses ammo count? It would then load in the highest value magazine? Thats my understanding of what you’re saying. If so thats literally the current system

right now it is still a pool… you don’t have a chance of loading in a partial magazine if you reload spam.

No its literally not. Each magazine has its own value. AKA if you shoot half a mag and then reload, that magazine stays at half full and will be reloaded when its the highest amount left in a magazine.

I was sure magazines acted as a pool until I tried it in practice. Then what I am requesting then is a change to how ammo is shown. Because the current pool look is not helpful enough.

It could be I have so much ammo that I never noticed until I tried it in practice. That and I usually mag dump.
Not my esperience - I am always reloading partial magazines.
How about no? Wouldnt throw half empty mags, and bolt action rifles do NOT need a leg up on mag feds in this kind of manner

or they could add the jamming that’s present in bolt actions to the LMGs.
